This is the best video I’ve seen of yours I’m curious in what way would you say that European culture is Oedipean Would you say it’s Oedipus’s blindness and self recognition/realisation which best exemplifies Descartes cogito and by extension the relaxation of the self as a distinct extended entity?
Ha! It didn't feel like the best one as I was making it, but maybe the most difficult. Oh, I'm not sure what to add to the question of European culture as Oedipean at this time that wasn't covered by Goux, or Lacoue-Labarthe, or Zupancic's Ethics of the Real. When it comes to founding myths, it is a lot of things. Goux seems to think that Descartes's cogito is exemplary of the Oedipean posture of the philosopher. The argument seems a bit forced at times but it's hard not to see what he's driving at.
I would love to write a play on this about 2005! Oedipus tries to solve the riddle of the psyche labyrinth, only to be rebuffed and then blinded by the gnostic pandemonial conflagration.🥲
