Good video thanks Dan. Nice and honest as always! I recently took my OEX Roam 300 out in all the snow. Got down to -1 and a wind chill of about -7! Stuck a poly-cotton inner bag inside plus some layers and was fine. OEX bags do seem to be well designed like you say. All the best.
Great vid Dan, like you say everyone sleeps differently! As a young man I recon this OEX would have been a good buy, as an old git I find I need a 4 season in the middle of summer! As always thanks for the time you take to bring us the information. Regards

I knew you'd have done a review of this! Great review, and I've bought one. Already have the Leviathan 900, but wanted a synthetic bag for damper conditions. Will take a Thermolite extreme liner just in case I need a bit of extra warmth, but I tend to sleep hot, so doubt I'll need it.
Which would you recommend?? Im about to go out on my first camp on Dartmoor, I have tarp camoed with a snugpak tsb but wanted something a bit lighter and warmer, thanks alot
@@reeceyp1972 I haven't had chance to use the Fathom 400 yet because of lockdown, but would have no hesitation in recommending the Leviathan 900, it's both warm and lightweight. Like I say I have bought the Fathom in case of very wet conditions as it would be difficult to get a wet down bag dry.
Looking at buying this as an upgrade. Love it that its very light and packs down quite well, it was out of this fathom ev400 and Vango nightstar 450. Similar price but double the weight, i believe vangos comfort rating over oex's -26c, is oex crazy? Imagine taking this sleeping bag into sub zero is not waking up from sleeping, thats if you cam get any sleep 😂
Hi thanks for the review, we're considering this for an Iceland highlands hike in the summer, the temp range and weight and price all make this a compelling choice, we have Mammut bags that I'm pretty certain would be plenty toasty enough, but they're so bulky and heavy in comparison! One thing I really like to know about a bag, for any future reviews you do, is whether the zip is double ended so you can get your feet out! I think this one is but it'd be great if you could confirm? As another commenter said, I might get a liner just to be on the safe side as well, altho at my age now my temp is up and down all over the place! And then not many liners open all the way down either for you to get your feet out if you need to cool down...! 🤔
I love this sleeping bag! I was cold in it Monday night though for the first time, no idea of temp! Forecast was -1, but might have been colder. Frosty when I got up.
We like your review videos, but it is always a better review when the kit has been used 3 or 4 times in different situations. Mainly because each time you use a new piece of kit you learn more about it, both good and bad. Don't take it as a personal criticism, it is just how reviews are done in any industry. Glad you got out camping with your gear and had a good night.

Hi I have the original fathem 4 and I used it at - 8, two weeks ago and with the right clothing has seen me through winter outstanding,,, as for reviews after 1 night it's called a preview,,, review is in the wording as in you are come back to it,,,,, like re-visiting,,,,, atb Mike 👍🏻
hi , I am looking for a 3/4 season sleeping bag which does not cost the earth and is reasonably light. I have narrowed it down to the Vango Ultralight Pro 300, the Fathom EV 400 and the Snugpack Softie Elite 3. your opinions ?

Has the same comfort temp as my mammut MTI compact bag, and I thougt mine was light at about 1600 grams. Kinda want something super small for summer next but me bank account said no :)
I was watching this review while standing in Go Outdoors -- it certainly looks like a good bag and feels nicely padded, but I need to check a few others out before I decide. Thanks for the review.
@@englishwoodsman - I held that and the latest Vango Ultralite 300 side by side, and it's a lot more compact with a similar rating, but I'm not sure how that will translate in real world conditions. My aim is to find the warmest synthetic bag I can that's under 1.5kg and doesn't break the bank.
Hi i find that buying sleeping bags is a mine field . Too many variables to take in account . because just going to the shops and buying the bag with best temp ratings isnt the way to do it .like you say everybody sleeps different . So this is where reviews give people a better insight in to how others think about certain bags . in my advice to others trying to buy a sleepingbag ask the shop to help about sizing etc . A good fitting bag is key . A good shop will know if a certain bag is suitable for the customers needs atb kev

How did you get on with the 400?I used it in 0c and was absolutely freezing with all my thermals and over trousers,T-shirt fleece and down jacket on and a woolly hat,couldn’t believe it.
Don't bother listening to what others say, do your own thing. Why do what everyone else does? People enjoy what you do because you do what others don't
I brought this sleeping bag after reading and watching reviews online. I camped out in temperatures of 5 degrees and was cold! I had to put my thermals on and my insulated jacket and I still felt like the sleeping bag was lacking in keeping me warm. Surely you shouldn’t have to wear so much especially when the comfort temp is -1. Maybe it’s different for others but I took it back.
English woodsman I took it back and got the OEX Leviathan EV 900 Sleeping Bag, slept out in it last night. It was -1 and was toasty as!! Brilliant bag have you tried this bag? Would be great to see a video on it . Cheers mate
Just returned a Leviathan after 1 day and no use. Found that internal shoulder size was only 72cm to 73cm and almost impossible to zip up fully, once managed it was like a straight jacket, absolute nightmare. I'm not huge and measure 47 inches around shoulders, so if you ain't skinny you will find it a very tight squeeze. Also zip caught up on inner baffle on first use and at least 3 other times, wasn't easy to get unstuck either. Could see down through outer material, and I had plenty of small feathers on me when I got out. Could see daylight through side of zip were stitched to bag due to being so tight, so doubt it would've been long before ripping. Huge pity as it lofts up brilliantly yet packs down nice and small. Certainly felt very warm also. Ordered the Fathom 400 instead as it's slightly wider at shoulders, so should just about be fine without putting massive strain on zip & feeling like I'm in a straight jacket. Also not massive difference in temperature rating plus much lighter, don't have the hassle of caring for down & seen nothing but good reviews, so here's hoping it lives up to them. Did a review on Millets pointing out the issues with Leviathan.
@@englishwoodsman Thanks for replying. I had a fairly chunky closed cell foam mat so warmth shouldn't have been a problem. Maybe this was a one off, maybe something else was wrong, but personally I wouldn't buy again. Just thought I'd put this here to warn people that sometimes I suspect oex of stretching its numbers slightly to look good.
