Hi, are you an official? Really appreciate you uploading these videos. It helps as a junior official to see how the highest level officials call games. The more I watch these, the more I am confused by the rules. It seems these are only called when a player falls and intentionally takes the charge. I asked a high level referee about it and he said when the target area is hit (the torso), it should be a charge. However, out of 100 times that a player in the post goes right into a defenders torso causing him to stumble back and he doesn't fall, it is maybe called a few times out of 100. So when the defender doesn't fall and it is called, it makes sense according to the rules, but it is almost never universally enforced like that. I feel like the rules aren't clear enough and it is extremely confusing. Can someone help me out?

Yes.. I agree with you when player is posting up can be very difficult to estimate what is too much and what is not. Good video named "FIBA Rules Explained: Cylinder, Block & Charge" from @refereeuniversity is a good start.

I find it pretty interesting how FIBA officates elbows the head. whether PF or USF. Any clips on those?

0:22 Surely must be a blocking foul. My understanding is that the offensive player is a moving shooter and he starts the act of shooting as he gathers the ball. The defender doesn't get into legal guarding position until after the offensive player gathers the ball, so it should be a blocking foul. Am I getting this wrong? Can another official help me?

You could be correct, this is very close. I find all the calls and post them here on my YT but some of them are not correct calls.

I think you may be getting your rulebooks mixed, under FIBA rules there is no requirement to be in a LGP before the ball is gathered, just to be facing the offensive player and to have both feet on the floor, you may still slide laterally or back to maintain LGP. I think there is an argument to be made that Red #24 moved into the opponent therefore losing LGP but if you look closely I think #24 establishes LGP before the contact and is at the place of contact first.

@@louisballany9778 Yes, you are correct. I asked a FIBA referee about this a while ago, and he said that the right call was made. The defender just needs to be there before the offensive player takes off. Rule 33.6
