I used to listen to this song whenever I felt like life was a burden, this song literally saved me from suicidal thoughts. Thanks Of monsters and Men , 5yrs later this song gives me even more peace.

I listened to this song when I would sneak out of the house late at night. It made me feel like I was on this adventure discovering every new and great thing about late nights in a small town.

Life lesson: dont let anyone tell you that the music you like is bad. Im my personal experience music has a profound influence on your personality. So explore, and listen to what you vibe with. Because the right music to listen to, is the music you like.

To me this song is about the longing for an adventure. Feeling trapped in an ordinary life and wanting more. Feeling that there is a purpose or destiny out and away from one's routine.

i feel so connected to this song when they say "as the soft walls eat us alive" and then proceed to play such beautiful melody for the rest of the song feels like acceptance, accepting the unfathomable truth of their lives the fact that less the half of the song has lyrics is for me the perfect choice since it feels like it builds up that acceptance of what's happening, the last moments of the stages of grief feels like finally making peace with reality, when you decide to just go with it regardless if you want to or not, in the end, we can't control reality, but we can control "our own" reality, we can control the way we take the things that happen to us the half of the song that's just music feels like that moment when your mind finally feels free of the dread, the stress, the sorrow, the uncertainty, the suffering, feels like finally being able to see things as they actually are, your eyes feel relaxed, your mind cools down, the music feels like it understands that and helps you think about the world, the situation you're going through you finally stop resisting the treatment reality gives you, you embrace it, and realize that you are stronger than you thought, maybe not enough to change everything, but enough to keep on going regardless

You know... since 2012 when I discovered OMAM I absolutely fell in love with them. "Yellow Light" is probably my favorite song and I really analyzed the lyrics in search of meaning. When I came up with my own interpretation of what this song means... I knew one thing: that if I was to ever fall in love with a girl and ask her to marry me, this song had to be played during our wedding. And in the summer of 2019, we did hear this song at midnight and we danced to it while all the guest circled us in the dark... with glowing sticks in the color of yellow.

"My head is an animal" is possibly one of the most amazing, innovative, and beautiful albums I've ever heard. It's very rare to see an album that tells an actual story from beginning, middle, and end. And this song in particular is one of the most hauntingly beautiful things I've ever heard. OMAM really is amazing.

This song is so nostalgic. All of their songs are. Takes me back to my early 20s staring at the sunset over the river listening to this and entering a state of bliss.

Many of their songs ask existential questions about life, love, conflict, and finding meaning. There seems to be lots of pain while chasing after a glimmer of hope and escape. I think there music is reflective of a generation that has had terror thrust upon them by a world going madder every day. There is lots of systemic abandonment and pain but the innate desire to push on and find something better.

I just love how this song doesn't have that much lyrics and the beautiful lullaby-like instrumentals slowly blow me away.

I've had trouble interpreting this song for years. I used to think that the male speaker was intentionally leading the female speaker into harm's way, since he said to ignore all the warning signs and the light was blinding his eyes, (which could still be true, I guess.) But the last line and the air of the music afterward suggests that he's leading her out of her terribly tiny comfort zone in order to truly enjoy life, though scary it may be. The soft walls are the small confines of what she considers "safety", confines so small that they "eat them alive," or basically have them rotting away. You know it's a really good song when it takes someone forever to figure it out and it's still abiguous lol

Every time I watch this, I mostly just hope these creatures are being treated nicely by those riding them.

I remember listening to this song 8 years ago in the car with my girlfriend at the time. It was a rainy night and we were on the way home after eating out. We were fighting at the time and there was a question of where our relationship was headed. After trying to talk it out, we sat in silence for a while, then this song started playing. I instinctively grabbed her hand and held it as she rested her other hand on top of mine. In that moment, without saying a word, as the "lala's" in the song crescendoed to its climax, it felt like everything would be okay between us. We're not together anymore, but for some reason I'm always reminded of that night and that seemingly small, insignificant event whenever I listen to this song, even 8 years later. I guess it just reminds me of a simpler time.

I always imagine like a girl who have severe anxiety/Depression and is afraid of everything and everyone. So she met a boy who's willing to help her. That's why even if she describes everything as they are scary and dangerous, he is always calm and confident. He tries to make her confident of herself too, as he says 'ignore those big warning signs' refering to her afraid to go with him. Also, she seems to be lost because she just can't find herself on so many anxiety and so many scary feelings. The light could be the 'light in the end of the tunnel', when se realizes that there is a answer, there is a way to get better. Just can't not imagine me and my boyfriend >,< This is a masterpiece, and I love it!!

I just discovered this song and think it's amazing, it gives me peace

i spent a lot of time in high school crying to this song. to me, it symbolized peacefully slipping into death and the beyond. but that was comforting at the time. i remember playing these lyric videos for everyone late at night in my friends basement. i think only a few of us were awake. i wonder if anyone else remembers that night the way i do

this is one of the rare bands that takes me somewhere else when I listen to their music. not just an escape, but I really believe the worlds in their heads speak through them and come out in the songs! such a magical band.

It's haunting how for the last three minutes of the song, you gets sucked in consumed with this weird awkward but good feeling, and yet it is soothing and joyful even though it's repetitive.

I remember the first time listening to this song was back in 2018 when I got diagnosed with cancer. It was certainly a horrible experience but I will never forget the peace it brought to me during those hard times. I still come back to this song whenever I need it...

I wrote a story that I think goes along with the song! She had been sick for months, almost a year now. Day in and day out, she would lay on her bed, unable to even move or eat. She could only eat certain foods, but some days she would go without eating completely, but those were the days that her sickness was even worse than before. As she watched the sun go down, she closed her eyes. She was exhausted. After what seemed like hours passed, she opened her eyes to see that the sun was still setting. It had only been a few minutes, apparently. She turned to her side to see the glowing, white figure of a man. Her two sisters would most likely say that it was nothing, and she thought the same. She figured that it was a dream, and shut her eyes again. It wasn’t until she opened her eyes and turned around that she realized the man that she had seen was standing over her bed. This couldn’t have been part of a dream. The man took her hand, and helped her sit up. But strangely, she didn’t feel like she did before; all sick and gloomy, and sore. She felt like her old self. Her teeth weren’t aching, her bones were strong, her neck wasn’t sore from sitting up on her pillow. She felt like a child again. She felt relief rush over her as she got down from her bed for the first time in months. She knew it was her time to go, and she felt at peace. That was when the man smiled, and in a ghostly, yet warm voice, whispered, “Just grab a hold of my hand. I will lead you through this wonderland.”

the art work on their videos is always so amazing

The feeling that makes you want to march towards something you've desired for. It's time to shine and finish what you have started... Update (4 years later): I made this comment during my time at Highschool as a senior to keep myself hoping for the better future. Marching through those years during college, I made it as a Senior in the field of aerospace engineering. Yet I continue to march as that future awaits for me to make it. Doesn't matter how many steps it takes, as long as I can reach the end, I will keep marching. I am really looking forward to finish what I have started :)

When i was younger i was definitely at risk and no matter what I did the adults in my life (family and teachers) either didn't care or never noticed. I found this song one night and it made me cry immediately. It became a nightly routine to cry myself to sleep while listening to this because at the time for me the first person symbolized someone on the edge of ending it all and the other was her conscience that was accepting of it and helped her to do it. It helped me to hear for some reason and made me feel less alone. Now that i'm doing a little better i think my stance on the meaning of the song has changed. It feels more like her conscience is helping her through a hard time and letting her know its okay to feel these things. I still cry whenever i listen to this song but its more because i wish i could go back and help my younger self through those horrible years.

Simply amazing feel to it. Like a mothers lullaby on a stormy night. These guys have a nice dark, brooding feel and yet almost a hopeful demeanor. You listen to what they are saying and how it's said, it seems like they have come through a lot of hardship together. I'm sure it has to do with the dreary weather, but it contrasts warmth against a backdrop of a cold environment.

I always scroll down to the comments section on their videos because: 1. There are hardly any haters. I have literally not seen one. 2. You often learn something new 3. You guys always have interesting interpretations of the songs and I think it is a kind of quality that OMAM have, their music can be interpreted in many different ways.

This video is so simple, so subtle, like two marbles rolling around in a tin can. Nothing spectacular, nothing complex. Yet it feels so good watching it, especially from 1:43 until the end. That part of the song syncs perfectly to the creepy march through the storm.

I used to listen this song while smoking on the porch of my old apartment. The girl I had strong feelings for wasn't interested in me. In fact, she was dating one of my good friends at the time. During the day, I felt like life wasn't fair to me. I arrived home. Open my cigarillos pack and played this song. Needless to say, it managed to take me out of my misery for a few minutes. Sure, the lyrics didn't have a distinct link with my life, but the song just soothed me for a small while. Anyway, thought it would be nice to share this story with someone.

This band...where do I begin. They have the vocal ability to make them sound vulnerable and youthful, but empowering. The songwriting is amazing and unique. I love the nature-inspired vibe they give. They have the power to make you cry or calm or feel chills or question your entire existence because of how they reach to your soul. Of Monsters and Men is incredible. They are a rare gem among music that just isn't so much music anymore, and the fact that OMAM isn't incredibly famous or extremely well known kinda gives me hope that the good music is reserved for those who look for it. Many people interpret this song as a song about a war and bombings. I believe it is about an insane person. The girl is saying what she sees, and the boy is the voice in her head. "Running into the night, the earth is shaking and I see a light" strapped to a hospital bead, which is vibrating as it goes down the hall, and the soft walls of a padded cell feel like they are closing in on her as she goes deeper into insanity. notice how the boy said "the light is blinding my eyes" he is the voice in her head, but he is no longer calming her, he is seeing what she is seeing and is no longer supporting her, he is her. sorry if this was confusing, it's just what I feel

I heard this live last night, and it nearly brought me to tears cos of how beautiful it was, this band is just awesome!

I finally found it! I used to listen to this kind of songs from radio but I never know about it until today.

I saw them in concert in 2016 and it was so much fun. We almost got rained out by a really bad thunderstorm but as soon as it stopped thundering, the amphitheater was reopened and we all listened to this amazing music in the slight drizzle of rain. It was actually magical. They played this song at the end, when it was almost midnight and everyone was super happy but tired. It was one of the best days of my life.

This is the first time I've heard this song, it's not even halfway over and I'm already crying. And I came here from King and Lionheart, which always makes me cry. I've decided I need to listen to this entire album but I have to wait until I'm more emotionally prepared and not at work

Does this band remind anybody else of where the wild things are

This is fucken awesome. This is fuckin talent. Why? Because it shows what we have not really seen or heard of before. There is a beauty of symbolism in their work and its difficult to see, which is a good thing. I hear today's artist's and I enjoy only one or two songs from those. yet, these guys I have enjoyed all of their songs. There is a reason why I keep hitting reply to their music.

Honestly theres something special about these guys music even amongst other indie folk theres just something special that hits you in the soul their instrumentals are amazing the animations the lyrics the imagery its just special and whenever I feel down I find myself listening to these songs and I become my optimistic self again I don't know what it is but it touches your soul and it feels like you can aply it to any situation or story. They give me a feeling of "Hey were in a bad situation right now and it sucks but its not going to stay this way" I think they would probably be one of the most listened to bands if it wast one of those situations where everyone knows their songs but no one knows the name or who they are. Next time they come anywhere near me in the us me my mom and my dad are so going and Im going to drag any of the friends along that I can.
