Sometimes it's hard to see that you're throwing a "wounded duck" but one way to know is if you're consistently turning over plastic that really shouldn't be turned over.
I turn over all my slow discs, I figure it's not that bad that drivers can't compensate for it, but after this video, I'm convinced that my grip isn't "outside enough" on the disc.
Hey Danny, I'm in a weird situation with trying to improve my game. My drives don't have the off axis torque but my putts do. I've watched a lot of videos on putting and I was just wondering if it's the same concept as driving? Any advice is appreciated! I really want to figure out my problem
Can you try to explain or prove how disc torque make the disc flip more? Based on my experience the disc are more likely to wobble when the disc are lacking spin. And the more spin (combined with speed) you give the disc, the more it will flip (due to the characteristics of the disc ofc.). Some discs will not flip at all because the shape and form of the disc breaks down the speed before it gets to point where it flip. This is my thoughts and I will never be sure about it before it is properly tested and discussed. I would really appreciate if you could make a video and test out the theory or discuss it. Not a lot of videos about “science” behind the forces working on the disc… I like your video’s ;) Thank you!
OAT is commonly caused by rolling your wrist in the follow through. I think you kinda mentioned it but not fully. Palm up on forehands, palm down on backhands.
Sarin Highwind I talked a bit about it and I haven’t really found that. Rolling the wrist in the forehand is usually a downward follow through that causes the OAT. I “roll my wrist” as I forehand but i release it cleanly with an upward follow through and it’s a consistent and clean release.
I think its a huge technical area we are getting into then. If you are focusing on keeping your palm up on the forehand, you wont roll off axis torque onto the disc. Same with backhand. It's some stuff Feldberg talks about, but he is pretty technical on some things too.
Sarin Highwind I’ve got a video on forehand if you want to check it out and see what I’m talking about. Look at my forehands here though, doesn’t it look like I’m rolling my wrist? Palm orientation is dependent on the grip. If your fingers are pressing pad first into the rim and you keep your palm up, you will throw nose up. Backhand, if you’re throwing a roller and you finish palm down, you’ll throw nose up. Same with anhyzers. Follow through is more important than wrist orientation.
I wasn't talking about you, just commenting about not explaining it further based on the other information I've gleaned. Sorry if you took that as a dig or a critique. Was trying to add in. But, no expert either.
Jake Phelps usually this is from trying to muscle the Disc too much and repeatedly opening your elbow too hard causing tennis elbow. I’m not a doctor, but I’d say to ice it down and focus on being smooth rather than strong. Maybe take some time off too.
Danny Lindahl thanks for the reply. That's what I'm considering some time off. Just a side note,my pain is on the inside of elbow. Thanks for all your videos. Slow is smooth and smooth is far! Maybe I'll practice my putting with the time off!
Danny, please don't think I'm trolling when I mention this, but I'm noticing none of your reach back angles match your release angles. It appears that you're pulling off the line on one or the other portion of the swing...but your resulting flights are fine
