Off-duty firefighter in China rushes into restaurant to put out fire 

People: "not all hero wear capes." Him: " I just wanna save my fav restaurant."

"But the publics awareness of fire safety also needs to be raised." YEAH IT DOES! That's a baby fire, easy to put out unless it's left to heat up those gas tanks that could explode. Yet not 1 person or staff member had been taught to access the situation & perhaps go for a fire extinguisher....seriously? That firefighter saved that restaurant so much in damages, train your staff & perhaps yourself!

Perhaps teach those who are working there how to use that. And maybe get one extinguisher near the kitchen, even if it's a smaller one

Everytime he enters different restaurants, he always looking for exit and fire extinguisher for safety of customers and I believe that's his strategy.

Besides that, in 0:18 is that the chef / owner reaching into the flame and turning off gas? If so she deserves praise too. She still needs fire extinguisher training though.

There is no such thing as off-duty for Frontline workers- be it soldiers, police, medical staff and firefighters etc. Saving lives is their ultimate duty whether they are on duty or not. That's how they are being trained for and it's in their instinct to act whenever any dangerous situation arises.

Firefighting and saving lives is in their blood. I applaud this firefighter and all the firefighters throughout the world who selflessly-risk their lives daily for us. Give them a hug, a "high-five", or even a simple thank you message. They definitely deserve it!

When I was a kid living in Beijing my family once locked ourselves out of the apartment which was like 10 floors or something. It was in the middle of the night and there weren't easily accessible locksmith services. We ended up calling the fire fighters so they could use their ladder to access the apartment through the window and they didn't charge us for a cent. If it was in the West (say Australia) it'd cost hundreds of dollars. It's been like 20 years and I'm not sure if they would still accept this kind of request but one thing for sure is that the Chinese public servants take great honor for helping people, even if it's not on their job description.

Give respect to the man, even off-duty he still willing to work for peoples safety.

I’m 14 and I’m aspiring to be a firefighter. I refuse to retire until I’ve done something like this one day

People saying staff members or any regular person should've been able to do this but if you don't deal with such things on a daily basis, fear takes over you. In that situation, I'm sure people began to panic and most probably want to be able to return home in one piece. Instead of meddling with a fire extinguisher and not being confident about whether it is a dangerous situation or not, it's best to get to safety. You can replace whatever has been burnt but you cannot replace your life

The people in this comment section complaining about the chef/owner not being able to extinguish the fire herself have never encountered problems bigger than "I can't find my phone" First off, when in face of danger humans will panick, and won't be thinking straight anytime soon, especially when they never encountered it before. The fire is right next to a gas tank that is going to explode any minute. Any sane person will get out asap. Second, the chef/owner did the next best thing by quickly evacuating restaurant. I guarantee you, whether it's in China or the US, no restaurant owner is willing to spend money/time for a training for something that almost never happen.

Now THAT makes a man attractive. Glad he did what he did instead of walking away from it. MUCH respect!💜

Such a small fire, the kitchen staff really should've been able to deal with that before calling emergency services or relying on a member of public to use their fire extinguisher.

We need more firefighters like this...... when my house burnt down in December 2010, it took 45 mins plus for 1 firefighter to even arrive....... the next towns fire department got there before our towns fire department all because they were “doing training”. Training definitely helped that day................

This guy was amazing, he knew what to do and nobody was even trained well. This restaurant should honour him, as he saved the restaurant. If it wasn't for him, the place would have been gone.

This is why people NEED to learn how to use a fire extinguisher. Not only that, but in many scenarios, a small fire can easily be put out instead of just running away, causing it to become massive.

It’s in our nature as a frontliner. I’m a doctor myself, and I’ve treated people during off duties. My most memorable incident was when I treat a sick person in a 7 hour plane ride during my vacation.

Most people have no idea what to do in these types of situations, but to run. It's only those that are trained and educated who can step in and get it done.
