i think all police officer should be armored because those two officers lives where in danger and if they where armored they would of stopped the threat there and then. Respect to those two officers.

For all of the people arguing that things would have been better if the off-duty cops had guns, guns just cause gunfights and criminal gun escalation to match police arsenal, whatever they stole is not more important than the human lives you would risk by allowing officers to carry guns and start a fight. I know any history in police/law enforcement at all from other countries history, its that the more firepower the police, the criminals will always match it. More guns mean more death. Period. No way you can talk your way around it. Look up "Weapon Effect" on google, its a proven scientific study on how the just mere presence of guns or even a PICTURE of a gun in any scenario causes violence and aggressive behaviours to rise. Whats more important the bad guys getting away, or the people and officers who would be in the crossfire of gunfire in an open street?

Brave actions from the officers, but let's face it, the man with gun could've blasted both of those officers into oblivion if he decided to, and these officers (hired to protect the public) have literally nothing on them to defend themselves or anyone around them, to be fair it looks like they're off duty, but that is irrelevant, as if they were on duty they'd maybe have a taser each vs four men (one with a gun). Imagine missing your taser which considering you might be in a life or death situation, shaking violently is a real possibility, what happens next? Off duty and on duty should have guns at all times, no exceptions. If someone is coming at you with a knife or gun they're better off dead anyway as they will never benefit society, and will likely be trouble later. There is also the issue of a lack of police officers, but who can blame them? What sane human would want to join the force when on a daily basis you are potentially face to face with knife/gun wielding maniacs with no protection other than a taser - how are large groups of armed men dealt with before harm is done when you have that pathetic arsenal? and usually max two officers on a scene unless backup is called (requiring time in which officers could be easily killed). Guns shouldn't fall into the grasp of the public if the police are trained properly, are protecting/concealing their sidearm and transport of weapons is heavily regulated.
