Part 2 of the building of our first small off-grid cabin in Alaska on the Kenai Peninsula. This week we pour concrete before enjoying the 4th of July holiday break. Jay also attempts to build a chopping block from 4x4 posts and an old tire.

It’s all trial and error. Sometimes things work out, sometimes they don’t. Keep up the hard work, it’ll all come together.

Hi folks. Mike here from Charlotte NC. Just subscribed to your channel and got caught up. Look forward to interacting with you while your still new. I like your style so far. Reminds me a little of how Heath from Red Poppy Ranch narratives his videos. Best wishes and I look forward to the journey

You just made it harder on yourself splitting wood. If you can hold on price in there so you do work great.

I've seen others use just the tire Allso you don't have to split wood that is allready smaller than the split logs
@JayAndEleinne
@JayAndEleinne 18 дней назад
@@paulslocomb6805 yeah i was wondering about that. I know size-wise they are good. My question was birch doesn't dry well, so should i still try splitting the smaller ones or just let them be?

I don’t think it’s the axe my friend. You need to go back to the drawing board and cut one log at a time the way most people do. I have never in my life seen anybody set up a contraption like that to chop wood.

@@ka1133 once i got a splitting axe it works great. First time i saw one i questioned it, but i have seen them a few times. Splitting with a chopping axe is really hard and i knew that, but it's all i had at the time. -J

I agree to much wood in the tire
@doreennichols3881
@doreennichols3881 17 дней назад
Much quicker cutting wood, one piece at a time. I have split many tons of wood and that is the silliest way to do it, that I have ever seen. Go back to the drawing board.
@JayAndEleinne
@JayAndEleinne 17 дней назад
@@doreennichols3881 yeah when I've seen this method used before it worked so well. Even with my maul it just works "okay". I'll do a test run both ways and show it in an upcoming video. But this thing isn't seeming to convince me.

@@JayAndEleinne Maybe one of your viewers can get you a large chopping block. I would love to, but I am in Australia.
