In this video we are going Off Grid in the Upper Murray River region. Our goal is to get as close to the source of the Murray River as we can with our caravan and then travel along the Murray River, free camping and going off grid as much as possible.
Come and join us as we show you how we prepare for this free and low-cost camping adventure, how we manage our water, our power needs and daily living in our 23’ caravan while off grid
Thanks again to Guy & Chrstine @thetrippinfoodies for your friendship and coffee 😉

Cross the Murray turn right is Dogmans Hut in Victoria & free were we stay. Easy crossing with a hidden exit, plus the right vehicle & know how to use it, but not suitably for caravans. Lithium is the way to go with DC DC lithium Charging & solar. (AGM you go down to 50% - Lithium down to 20% & half the weight). We now do nearly all our cooking Off Grid in an Air Fryer including small Roast Dinners & Scones.😊

Thanks for this episode nice to get an update on road conditions not many do this and it's really helpful. We are doing this run this November starting from Adelaide, we were going on the Alpine Way but after Tassie hills might give it a miss. Very informative so really enjoy your channel.

I have 200amps of lithium and 2000w inverter in my car. I have plugged my caravan into the car inverter to charge the caravan. Just have to make sure your caravan charger doesn't draw more than the inverter can supply. Loved this video, cheers, Joel.

@philg2468
@philg2468 16 дней назад
I'm similar. I use my car as the powerbank. It has 400Ah Lithium and a 3000W inverter so when needed I run the 15A power cord from it to the caravan to run the charger or any 240V appliances we want to use in the caravan. The Lithium in the car is recharged at 50A when driving on day trips and the like and also have a couple of solar panels on the roof. The caravan is often parked in shade so I prefer not to have a huge 12V system in the van. Also we have an offroad camper as well as an offroad caravan so having the big batteries and inverter in the car makes sense

Enjoying the video, couple of corrections, the Geehi area which you briefly touched upon is very busy with caravans at Easter generally and is a vast area which extends three kms along the river. There is a daily charge of $16 a day for day use in the Kosciusko Nat park, plus the $6 you mentioned which is a booking fee for non specific campsites that don’t exist🤔. The source of the Murray is actually called Cowambat flat and is a large expansive plain which used to be able to be driven to, I have stood astride the Murray river at its source. The Indi bridge is actually a torrent you were there at low flow, 😉

@beyondthegreyoz

@@keithwhittaker8741 we have a Witi alarm fitted. If triggered it locks the wheels so the van can’t be moved and sets off the alarm. We also pick and choose where we leave the van. Some places just feel a bit safer than others. We also rely on the unique hitch and the size of the van being a deterrent. Having said that we are still conscious of the potential but don’t want to be stuck to the van out of fear. So I guess it’s a bit of a balance Cheers Paul and Wenda

@@beyondthegreyozI note you speak of working from the van on your wifi clip. Without being to personal may I ask what you do ? Your editing skills are excellent is it a talent you have always had or you have developed it while on the road. What type of camera do you use, and at what level do you shoot. I am always cautious about how much storage the movie consume. Finally you mention going into town to get water. I would have thought you could pull water from the pristine Murray River albeit perhaps via an inline filter. Thanks Keith

@@keithwhittaker8741 great questions, we do a couple of things to generate income while we travel, we provide mental health care via telehealth, Wenda is a Dr of psychology and provides counseling and therapy online, we also do some investment management and of course our RU-vid videos. I have only developed my video editing skills since embarking on this adventure but I have done a bit of research and studying to try and improve them. We mainly use a GoPro 10 to film but also have a Dji mavic air 2S drone and occasional we use our iPhone. The footage does use a lot of storage and we have several external 2tb hard drives with all of our old footage. As for water we are reluctant to use the water from rivers for cooking or washing dishes as we had seen cows in the water further upstream. Hope that’s helpful Cheers Paul and Wenda
