I have been such a fan for years and years. I only now decided I wanted and should go back to the beginning and look at the early content. I am so thankful this content is up and still viewable. I am also thankful for how things have evolved. The Wranglerstar logo and music is so much more to my liking current day. Thank you and your family. I'm looking forward to seeing how things continue to evolve in years to come.

It is pretty neat to back to the beginning and watch videos I haven't seen yet. The quality is still really good for four years ago. Love all the cuts and blended scenes.

love the video wranglerstar, i would just like to bring up one thing as to safety. As a faller, i work heavily wooded forests. usually hardwood. I agree with all your safety equipment. I wear that same helmet, bucking, limbing and topping. But when it comes to falling, i have learned the hard way to leave one ear muff up. You want to hear every little crack, breeze, widowmaker, or even machinery coming your way. Like my 97 year old gramp told me, " you want all your witts about you when your looking down and cant see whats coming at you. I come from a long line of lumberman, lost one to a barber chair, one other hit by a skidder because he thought the operator had seen him. Anyway, just want to give others something to consider.
@HOSSMCGILLICUTTI
@HOSSMCGILLICUTTI 9 лет назад
A barber chair is when a tree splits up the middle as your falling it. It makes the butt go up in the air and then usually splits 10' up and comes crashing down on. Leaving a stump that looks like a high backed barbers chair. Search barber chair on RU-vid
@HOSSMCGILLICUTTI
@HOSSMCGILLICUTTI 9 лет назад
Well, a tree that barber chairs isnt really identified as a widow maker. Although it can end up being one. What your dad is talking about is a tree with either its own dead top, or a limb being held up in the tree your about to fall. Possible from another nearby tree, just waiting for gravity or momentum to allow it to drop on your head, killing you. The most likely tree to barber chair is one that splits easily, like ash or big cedar trees. Watch this video if you can. On RU-vid, ("Tree Barberchairs, Then Strikes Worker" ) this clearly shows how a this man died.

Love the sounds of a tree before it falls. there is something satisfying about the still silence mixed with the popping, followed by the crescendo of a ground shaking thud. It is a shame that the only way to experience it is by harvesting a beauty of a tree. But a properly managed forest will yield lumber for generations.

Very nice work. I watch a lot of your videos. I am a proffesional tree climber been doing it for 4.5 years since I was 14 and I notice when you cut you cut at an angle downwards. It would make for easier falling if you cut straight with your first front cut of the face. It pinches if you are at a diagonal. Anyways looks good!
@cooperdisciple
@cooperdisciple 14 лет назад
That tree fell right where you wanted it to didn't it? Nice. I'm a novice on the subject of logging. It looks like the wedges make for a more controlled fall. I guess you can also fine tune the direction of the fall depending on which wedge you strike?

+hambone950 that sort of only applies when hitting tempered steel with tempered steel... a lump hammer and splitting wedge are both ductile (annealed) so not brittle. They'll deform long before they shatter.

I have been watching a lot of your videos lately and I enjoy them very much. I'm working towards having the same lifestyle in the future. What is still puzzling to me however is how exactly do you get out of debt? Even if you follow Ramsey's advice, I don't see how you can just buy $100,000-250,000 farm land without a loan. Also, where does your income come from in such an area to cover the cost of basic utilities, repairs, food that you don't grow yourself, etc. All these details are still puzzling to me..
@seigeengine
@seigeengine 9 лет назад
I was with you until you said farm land. Land in the middle of nobody cares is dirt cheap. I could go right now and buy hundreds of acres for less than $100k. As for income? There are various ways. You could have a nearby job, work online, or be retired, for example. You can retire very young if you have no debts and live the sort of frugal homestead lifestyle many people do.
@zsoltberes6324
@zsoltberes6324 9 лет назад
I called it farm land as a figure of speech I suppose, not specifically farm land. Just a huge lot of land, lol. Bad expression I suppose..
@seigeengine
@seigeengine 9 лет назад
Zsolt Beres Yes, but you can still buy hundreds of acres of land for under $100k. Where I live, you can get large tracts of land for $500/acre that are accessible from public roads, and land that isn't for as low as $100/acre.

@TheMetalButcher
@TheMetalButcher 10 лет назад
Aye, but this guy has plenty of other trees he could have turned into firewood. I'm sure there is a reason, I just don't know it.
@dposcuro
@dposcuro 10 лет назад
I think he cut it down to thin down some of the forest, and it was one of the smaller, weaker, or was part of a stand of one species that was strangling out others. Why did he cut it for firewood? Because his home and workshop needed heating. When you run out of twisted, forked, gnarled trees for firewood, the good and straight ones eventually get culled for heat as well.
@TheMetalButcher
@TheMetalButcher 10 лет назад
Very true. Can't really see him running out of junk wood, but like I said, I'm sure he had some sort of reason for it.
