I live with only rain water harvesting. I have learned that the white IBC tote will start to grow microscopic alge and organisms if not painted. It is essential to keep all the sunlight from getting thru. The small amount of water left in it between tank fills is a perfect environment for things to grow. That's why the main storage tank is black with no way for the light to get in.
@Timberwolf-01
@Timberwolf-01 3 года назад
Order online a UV protection cover that slips over your tote. It'll also keep algae from growing inside it.

I keep looking for videos about water systems that don’t rely on hauling - some combination of rainwater cachement & atmospheric water harvesting. Does no one do this? Atmospheric water harvesters now can collect water in atmospheres down to 10% humidity and even AZ averages over 30%. One guy near Tucson had a giant rain cachement thing and said he got 50% of his yearly water in the 3 weeks a year it rained. Hauling seems to render you totally dependent on local water prices and availability, which kind of defeats the purpose of off-grid living, not to mention the time/effort & vehicle wear of hauling.

I've been looking at fog harvesting, but not sure how well it would work out here, since it's usually so dry. But in the early morning, I DO think there is at least some potential for dew. So maybe a combination of several different types of water harvesting are needed?

@@desertforest2221 I’ve been in north eastern Arizona for almost 6 years and haven’t seen any fog yet. I do have a little rain catchment from a shed I built though, but most of our water is hauled.

Brian, you must suck at research. There are hella videos and info regarding that. Most areas do not allow rain catchment, its illegal. For those that can, there is no shortage of info

i lived off grid before it was fashionable in az outside of phoenix in an adobe house .we ere able to go yo the local rural fire station and fill our water container for free. it was mounted to a trailer frame and had a gas pump mounted to it so the water cold be pumped to the insulated storage tanks on the roof. it could also be used for fire suppression .this was in the early 80's

What pump are you using to transfer the water and how many horsepower What brand? I'm looking to transfer water from one tank to the other and I'm wondering how much power or what to buy The good news about watching this video and stumbling upon this video is I've been living fully off grid in the Rockies of Colorado for 10 years and recently picked up six acres in elfrida so when I heard there was a water station in alfreda I was super excited! Up until this point appear in Colorado I've just been filling 30 gallons at a time putting it in the back of my SUV in a tank or in 5 gallon water jugs When I come down there in the winter I'm looking to do this totally differently. Not a big fan of Colorado and what it's become I'm looking forward to getting back to Arizona as I spent $35 years there is one of the biggest promoters in the valley Thanks! Great info
