I enjoyed listening to you. I also try to get the most bang for my buck. I still use the first inverter I purchased. You can have multiple inverters/charge controllers on the same battery bank. With Anderson connectors, you can share arrays between charge controllers. With switches, you can select which load an inverter powers or which inverter a load uses. Good luck on your second iteration. I call it organic design. Fortunately, most of it can be reused. You may end up with multiple systems. Redundancies are probably good.

We had solar installed on our house. 26 panels with individual micro inverters. So far so good

You would be welcome in the "weirdo" community, (the rest of the world) if you (America) want to come on board. The metric system works well and is easier to use. Great video. 🇨🇦

You must be way up north to have your panels pointed at such an aggressive solar angle! I live in AZ and we only point at 35 degrees. It rocks! At least your snow slides off easily. 👍😆

@icarusfarmsWV 15 дней назад
That was my winter angle, I just never reset them this summer. Even at that angle I get a pretty good amount of snow accumulation, I've thought about making them even steeper for when I'm not there...

A thought about the cabin, if you had a battery there and charge it through the cord and then run an inverter to power the devices in the cabin. I saw where someone ran their house on a number 10 wire with a battery buffer. He house burned down and they could not get new service for his new house. The power came from their next door neighbor.

I want to avoid keeping the batteries in the cabin for safety (LFP is safer but not immune from run away) as well as space/noise/heat (inverters are remarkably loud). I actually just finished burying a 250' run of 2-2-2-4 direct bury line between the cabin and the power shed , I now need to move the inverter to the other wall in the shed and get everything hooked up. I will defiantly sleep better not relying on a string of extension cords

You can add more from another charge controller you can have more than one going to your batteries

I think you can have additional mppt charger. to assist charging batteries. They are cheaper than all in one unit and can work in parallel.

With 2.1kw of panel I get approx 1.7 averaged out on sunny days mostly so I agree, I do have 100ft run so its a bit expected.

Stuck with that 145v charger limit myself on a Growatt, wish I had gotten an EG4 one that I could almost do one full set of 3.5kw in series instead of my 3 in series 2 of those in par for 6 panels instead of the 10 365watt I have avail.

For your next upgrade get a string inverter.

a slight correction to your terminology. if your panels are producing 2500 watts continuous for an hour they produced 2500wH @ their overall voltage how they are wired. aH or wH is a power over time measurement, watts is a measure of power without time. I dont mean to nit pick but people will misunderstand if not termed correctly. EDIT: you have this somewhat correct in your light bulb story. also look at the sungold inverters. I have a 5k with a 5k 20 panel array. it is only a 120 inverter but it handles (2) 10 panel strings but it was only $700. I plan on adding another one with another 5k in panels. Im fighting battery price right now. I think im going the 280aH DIY route. also look if you have a local welding store for wire, you can get up to 4/0 flexible welding cable fairly cheap.

It is better to run AC cables from power house to your cabin, have a main isolator and breaker at source, then use 100A AC cables to another consumer unit / fuse board inside the cabin
@icarusfarmsWV
@icarusfarmsWV 28 дней назад
That's my plan, going to run 2ga direct burial cable to the cabin from my panel in the powerhouse and use a subpanel in the cabin to feed outlets and lights. Based on the voltage tables for my distance I require 4ga so I opted for 2 for a safety margin. I'm in the process of digging the trench now actually.
@DodgyFPV
@DodgyFPV 28 дней назад
@@icarusfarmsWV Never a bad idea to overrate your cabling, mostly done due to budget, also be better in case of hitting the fan scenario as the fuse/breaker would go before the cable heats up too much.

I wonder if you would get more in the summer if it was more vertical to not get the shading or take that panel out of the string. Signature Solar has free shipping on orders of $3000. Maybe you could find someone who would want to split a shipment.
@icarusfarmsWV
@icarusfarmsWV 15 дней назад
I'm actually ok in the summer for power as there are much fewer days of clouds so my batteries generally stay topped off every day, it's the winter where I get in trouble due to much lower irradiance on average due to weather and shorter days. In the summer you actually get better power by making the panels lay flatter as the sun is higher in the sky, winter you want the panels more vertical to both match the sun's lower elevation as well as reduce snow accumulation. Good idea on combining shipping, actually did this with a friend when I went from 8 to 10 panels.
@JR-xw5dk

@@icarusfarmsWV I just do not think used panels are worth buying vs new ones as low as they are, some is in the sub 30 cent range. One option would be to buy either the eg4 charge controller or the eg4 yellow all in one and just use the inverter on it. If you spent that much then the 6000xp is not that much more. I am glad you got the line ran to the cabin.
@JR-xw5dk
@JR-xw5dk 16 дней назад
You may want to ask who you bought the batteries from if it is ok to use the old cables. Just my thoughts - The smaller cables should push less current to the old batteries and might cause the older batteries to "age" slower compared to the new batteries so they will age to the closer rate. Just a thought.
@icarusfarmsWV
@icarusfarmsWV 15 дней назад
I had a call with Signature Solar and they said I really needed to have all the batteries using the same cables and it turns out the cables from my original 2 batteries actually had the incorrect (too small) cables versus what they are supposed to ship/spec so they just mailed me a bunch of cables. Now that I finally got my metal roof installation completed I'm going to be able to hit all the electrical upgrades over Labor Day Weekend...

I've had to cover almost my entire property with solar panels in order to get enough power to provide for my electrical needs in most types of weather.
@icarusfarmsWV
@icarusfarmsWV 28 дней назад
Yeah, it's really been oversold to much of the country that fundamentally lacks solar irradiance. You can make it work in places like mine when you have to but it's really a poor choice for much of the country if there are alternatives. My issue is space, I have the acreage but most of my land is vertical and faces east.
