An easy ceiling is steel roofing. So glad I did it in my garage. Cost a bit but once its hung its done. no tape/ finishing/ paint ect. Plus nice and bright and reflects light well.

"...Two car garage and a gravel driveway..." I know what you mean. Three years ago I was putting running boards on my van in January, and it started raining 3/4 of the way through. Thankfully is was only 35 degrees. Now I have a 30 x 50 foot shop with a Modine heater and a Back Yard Buddy lift. I don't have the words to describe how thankful I am.

I built my 36x48 shop by myself. I finished the inside with USB and painted it white. I have 36 4’ 5200 led lights, and it is bright!! First thing I added was a 2 post lift, best investment ever!! Been in my shop 3 years now and still don’t have it organized. Jump from one project another. Thanks for the video and your organizing ideas!

I’m extremely glad you mentioned that you ran your compressed air with pex. I have been wanting to plumb my two car garage with air but wasn’t sure if pex would hold that kind of pressure.
@DirtLifestyle
@DirtLifestyle 2 года назад
We would test our plumbing systems to 150 psi for inspections and I never saw a problem. This system in my shop has been holding air pressure for 5+ years with zero leaks 👍
@99unclebob
@99unclebob 2 года назад
Not Pex Wirsbo, it a higher quality product and better in everyway, I build a house and oversized garage in here in Manitoba Canada where the winters are super cold and i have never had a leak in any part of it going on 21 yrs, thats in the house, garage inflow heat system with 2 loop system and air in the garage just run along the ways, although my compressor only produces 150 psi most tools don't use that much , it still hasn't leaked on me yet its worth the extra money and its not much more and you can do it yourself and doesn't take long maybe a day tops 👍

I used 1/2” pvc for mine and So far it’s working great! It’s pretty much a straight run, just an enclosed carport. Can’t fit a jeep in with all my tools/machine shop equipment in there lol. Have to work in the driveway but I’m thankful for the shop space I have!

I like your idea to have a dedicated drill press for pilot holes. Most times I just leave my drill press set to its slowest speed and deal with the slow pilot hole.

My dream shop that I want to have. Would definitely be like an old brick building that has history with it. And lots of vintage memorabilia in the walls. And updated lighting, wiring and plumbing. Definitely a 2 post lift. And an overhead hoist for doing heavy lifting.

Milwaukee tools are one of the best, I have a Milwaukee drill that was used in a metal working shop since 1972. I inherited ant the only thing I have done was replace the brushes and there was no need. Just did it as part of a tune up. Today still running strong.

Talking about "building" a 4x4 garage, you might consider having a space for fabrication and eventually selling items of your own products built for 4x4s. I love the setup of your shooting/video studio with the industrial sense.

In my old mans shop he has a 1/2 inch plate on a scissor lift for years . The sheet is 8’ x 6 . All his grounds for the welders get clipped on . He’s been rocking it for 10 years . His back thanks him when he’s doing intricate and repeatable jobs that you need to be close to. It also thanks him if he’s doing a backhoe bucket rebuild. The scissor lift has rollers for the feet outside and underneath the slab. It’s just another idea for you to think about.

Going to be building a garage in the next couple of years. Currently doing the gravel driveway garage thing. You can still do everything, you are just at the mercy of the weather. Great tour of your set up. I think no matter how big we build, we always seem to fill it and wish we went a little bigger.

I totally get it, seems like whenever I do anything in just my two car house garage it’s like a bomb went off. I store two modified Jeep wrangles that I built for me and my wife. That and my shop is also where I weld, build furniture or wood projects, hang out with family and friends, oh yeah and brew beer like a lot of beer 20 gallons at a time. So it has to be very clean and on wheels and all store away to park the Jeeps in every night.

Thanks for the shop tour! I've been working on getting my barn in shape so videos like this are really helpful. I'm in the lighting stage and ordered a bunch of led lights that now need to go up. Organization is next. My FIL pointed out that my barn doesn't have any fire extinguishers or a fireproof garbage can for dirty rags. He is a retired fireman and pointed that out instantly.

Great video. As for the driveway, I had a very dark garage and eventually got it drywalled and it made a HUGE difference. I'm not sure any of us really think about how much light reflects off of white paint....it's almost like having another light source in the space.

I agree; a box is better; my shop is 50 X 50 2500 Sqft. Pole barn. I started building my shop 5 years ago, it's still a work in process; the essentials for me are running water, hot and cold, a bathroom, HVAC, a place to relax and think, and a lift. Have you considered an in-ground lift?

Thanks for the shop tour Nate. For a "work in progress" it looks darned good to me. Lighting is a key. Just like you can never build a shop too big, you can never have enough lighting (especially the older you get - ask me how I know) or electrical plugs. All within reason of course. 😉 Happy New Year to you and the family.

appreciate all the hard work. Im currently down in Florida visiting the Parental units. Went to a local wildlife refuge to shoot ( 📸) a bunch of birds and alligators. It has taken me all week to cull and edit the photos and I'm probably only halfway done. I can only imagine what it takes to get your projects done while filming and editing, and subsequently releasing a weekly video plus whatever extras you do for Patreon.

Thanks for taking the time to shoot a shop tour video. I plan to build a shop in the future, but for now I'm just going to build smaller shop. Have you heard of a lift system called Maxjaxs? I am not sure how heavy your rigs are but the max lifting capacity is 6,000lbs and is portable in the sense that when it is not in use you can unbolt it and roll it away to store it.

Thanks for this video Nate! I once lived, rented a place on 3 acres in a rural area. It had a shop that was good sized ( 40'x50' approx. ) that even had a full kitchen and bathroom with a small bedroom in the opposite corner. I tried to buy it from the owner but she unfortunately died and left it to her daughter who sold the place out from under me and left me two weeks to move, BUMMER!! Love the shop and plan to get some property in the mountains soon so it will depend on the availability of property here in Eastern Washington. Hope you and your family had a Great Christmas and Happy New Year too.👍🎄

Nate you’ve made tremendous progress. Organization is always difficult to find the time for as there are more important (fun) things to do… You’re caught between a rock and a hard place throwing a move into the mix. Balancing needs and wants is difficult knowing that at any time you may find the perfect home to move to… Consider a property without an existing shop, but with land. A quonset style metal building would be something you could “assemble yourself”. Well maybe you and a few volunteers. Believe it or not they’re are RU-vid videos on the subject… Designing as many fixtures/tools as possible to be easily removed/moved in the future will pay dividends down the road.

I did my buddy's shop years ago with wirsbo. Everyone said we were stupid, but has without issue ever since. Even ran it through a manifold so he only turns on the section of the shop he's working in. And the compressor is in the main garage and lines go through a breezeway so we don't have to listen to it.
