Off The Beaten Path GOES WRONG in Bohol, Philippines 🇵🇭

I rented a motorbike so I could explore the Bohol island easily and in peace, without being stuck with a guide and driver.
There were many bike rental shops near my hotel, so I chose the one that had the best reviews on Google Maps. It cost 400 pesos ($7.20 USD) per day, while other shops were renting for 300 pesos per day, but their bikes were fairly new and in perfect condition, so it was worth paying the premium price.
For my first day of exploring I stayed in Panglao, which is the small island that's attached to the big Bohol island by a bridge.
Feeling hungry, I drove to Fortridge Food Park, which was highly rated on Google Maps, but when I got there it was dead. I think I was the only customer there and most restaurants were closed. So it seems like it's an evening place. Don't waste your time, like me, going there in the afternoon.
I ordered a fresh pineapple shake at Fortridge and then a huge thunderstorm started. So I took shelter there until it was dry, and continued my adventure.
I drove across Panglao to the Hinagdanan Cave, which is a popular tourist site in Bohol. It was way too busy though, with a queue of people waiting to get inside.
It was mostly local Filipino tourists who were visiting the cave. Bohol is a popular domestic tourist location, especially at the weekends. Filipinos living in Cebu can easily take a ferry across to Bohol for the weekend.
It was Sunday, and so I decided I'd leave and come back to the cave on a weekday.
It seemed like it was going to be a completely wasted day. With only a couple of hours of daylight left I tried to find something else interesting to visit in Panglao. I found there was seashell museum not too far away, and I could make it there just before they closed for the day.
The Nova Shell Museum in the Poblacion area of Panglao is one of the world's biggest sea shell collections in the world. I was lucky enough to go there when there were less visitors, so I got a private tour of the collection from one of the knowledgeable guides there.
The next day started off rainy and I waited for a dry spell, so I could drive to Chocolate Hills on the main Bohol island.
I have access to the executive lounge at the Henann Alona Beach hotel where I'm staying, I so relaxed in there with some free snacks and drinks for a while.
Eventually the rain stopped and I started the 2 hour road trip to Bohol's Chocolate Hills. But on the way I stopped to visit the tarsiers.
Tarsiers are little monkeys and there's a big conservation area of them on the way to Chocolate Hills. They are nocturnal so they aren't moving around during the daytime but you can see them relaxing in the trees.
The other tourists I met at the the Bohol Tarsier Conservation Area were all heading to the Chocolate Hills viewpoint but I had a better idea. Rather than visit the tourist viewpoint, I found a place on Google Maps that said "Chocolate Hill free view point."
I reached the exact point on the map but there was nothing there, so I had to do a bit of exploring. I thought I found a path but that just led to me falling in a ditch and then discovering a locked gate.
After getting some help from the locals I eventually found my way up one of the chocolate hills, that I got to enjoy all by myself with no tourists to annoy me. Despite the mishap, it felt like a great success!
I looked for somewhere to enjoy some tasty Filipino food on my journey back to Panglao, and found a restaurant called "Don Lechon." Lechon is rotisserie pig - a food that I've been meaning to try since I got to the Philippines but haven't found the authentic one yet.
I thought I'd get the authentic pork lechon at Don Lechon, but it was only chicken. Apparently chicken can also be lechon.
On my last day in Bohol, before returning my scooter, I finally visited the Hinagdanan Cave and I have to say it was underwhelming. It's just a cave with a pool of water. It's cool to look at for a few seconds but that's it. Most people were there to swim, but I passed on that, as it didn't look clean.
I ended my Bohol adventure with a fruit smoothie, made by friendly local woman.
I recommend renting a motorbike if you visit Bohol. It was the best way to explore this amazing island.

To me, you're the best RU-vid vlogger in terms of consistency and maintaining a high level of genuineness. Please, never change your approach to making videos, mate. Just keep doing what you're doing,keep it simple. Don't change. Don't become like those RU-vid vloggers who use sensationalism and create rifts between other vloggers; they're money hungry and annoying people. I haven't watched this particular video yet because I'm starting from three,four years ago. By the way, take care, Dale

I think Kim saved the content as it was getting dull until she came along and shared so much about seashells... that was very enlightening as wasn't very interested in seashells until she shared so much about them... well done Kim and the museum owner for sharing his collection 👍

I originally look forward to Fortridge Food Park, but it turn out to be a disappointment! I don't look forward to the seashell museum, but it turn out to be a pleasant surprise! However, the way they presented it could be improved! That executive lounge is better than expected and the snack there is actually great! Tarsiers are so cute, Yoda in Star Wars should be modeled after their appearance! Although Joe Dante, the director of Gremlins, publicly accused Star Wars of plagiarizing Gremlins, he actually refered himself! Tarsiers are nocturnal animals and rest during the day, but they are open to visitors during the day, disturbing their rest! It is more of a commercial zoo than a protected area! In fact, that free view point used to be very famous, and our television company have gone there to film the travel show. Maybe the epidemic has caused fewer people to go there, and even the road looks much more desolate! In our country, it is said that the green chocolate mountain is matcha-flavored chocolate, haha! Logically speaking, the pool in that cave must be flowing, otherwise the water would have filled up long ago if water is without going out. Maybe it would be cleaner than an artificial pool! This is another great adventurous episode of Dale's travel show, thank you very much for sharing! 👍🥰🙏

The lady speaks very good English in the museum and presented it very well and very detailed. You couldn't ask for more the way she presented it. She communicated very well with Dale. I do not know what needs to be improved in there. She was polite, too. Filipinos speaks English but not all can communicate very well than this lady.
@giannishen
@giannishen 11 месяцев назад
@@boomzgamingph This does not refer to the lady, but to the entire museum, including the buildings and the way shells are preserved! They operate the museum as a souvenir shop and seem to have a misunderstanding of the definition of a museum! If those shells are so precious, they shouldn’t be touched by anyone!

In the 80's, we went to that cave with no fee. We were crawling on our belly because there was no light just flash light. We were scared from snakes. At the bottom, you can swim underneath and come out to another cave. But that another cave has no other exit, you have to swim down back. My cousin did that and we were scared because he could have been lost.

The icing on the cake was Dale on top of the Chocolate Hills after smashing its foothill 😅, it's worth the adventure. Btw, no vloggers in the Philippines who went to Bohol that we're watching went on top of that hill and smashed it with his bagpipe! Thanks for detailed footage of what makes it brown, it could be a controlled fire to keep its grasses maintained. Glad someone explained to you that the cave has its own spring water if not sea water connected underground like the other islands part of Philippines has to offer and its endless beautiful waterfalls. Keep exploring our country and "ingat lagi" always take care!

Well done , Dale 👏enjoy and be safe .. I’ve been in Bohol with my fam. We had an awesome experienced with lovely people, stunning view of Chocolate Hills, sea views and a lot more .. I’m really glad you’ve been there quite sometime now in Philippines. There’s more to explore in Philippines 🇵🇭. Originally, I came from Butuan City ,. but now I lived here in West Sussex near Gatwick England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 . It’s very interesting watching your videos and glad you visited my country 🇵🇭🫰💚🧡

Love your vlogs, Dale. My son got me addicted! So sad about how stressed the tarsiers get in captivity. I did some research on them after your vlog and they get so stressed by the tourists, cameras , noise, etc that they bash their heads against trees until they die. Hope these "conservation" zoos are closed down. Thanks for highlighting it! Look forward to your next vlog. Stay safe.

Another awesome adventure, Dale!!! 🙌 Lots of W's from Dale in this video. - Fed the poor dogs half of the chicken he paid for. - walked to the store himself despite the man from the shop offered to do it for him and gave him tip after he ate - let the motorist know his kickstand is down, which prevented a possible accident - had a great and fun chat with local people in the smoothie shop - still pushed through to the secret viewpoint despite the mishap 🙏 But of course the haters will only point out how he called the kids on the tree "tarsier" and how he complained about the loud music at the food park and the bacteria in the cave waters 😂😂😂

It seems to me from this video that Bohol is lovely. Without traffic jams , friendly locals, no scammers.😊 Fire woods for that "dark cave" . 😂 Hello Dale, what is special food in Bohol? No gado-gado, coto, rujak, nasi goreng, es cendol, nasi padang&rendang ? Hahaha..sorry just kidding 😅 Enjoy your beautiful time in the Philippines, bro. Thanks for sharing this lovely video. Gbu.

be careful on stepping on little wooden bridge made by the locals, it could be traps built to catch animals like wild pigs etc... but the hiking is worth it cuz the views on top of the chocolate hills was amazing!!!

😮Watching fall over the flimsy "bridge" seemed like the start of a horror movie! You're so brave! And I felt that inspirational speech you gave at the top of the hill! ❤❤❤
