In Toronto/GTA, we have many "fast food" style Indian restaurants. Some are chains too. You walk in and there's a bunch of snack foods, curries, rice dishes, etc ready and you choose whichever you want and they pack it for you.

Bruh, I grew up so confused as an Indian. My parents are both Punjabi but we have both Hindu and Sikh customs. Culturally there are so many variants.

I used to work for a Indian Chinese restaurant out in NorCal. There’s a restaurant called Inchin’s Bamboo Garden that serves exactly that. They’re a chain so they have a few in major cities. Definitely worth a try. The cook’s were primarily from South India. It’s definitely different from chicken masala and butter chicken.

My man speaking facts. Much of China’s major cultural contributions to the rest of the world had origins in India (Kung Fu from Kalaripayattu, tea, buddhism - all Indian first). Then Kung Fu evolved to Karate in Japan and Tae Kwan Do in Korea. Tea and Buddhism made their way from China to those countries, etc.

What do you guys think about Indians identifying with the term Asian. In America, the term Asian seems to refer to a specific phenotype that is native to East and Southeast Asia. There are some groups in India that appear east or southeast Asian, but the vast majority do not. While on the other hand India had a huge impact on the language, culture, religion, and food in Asia. This especially true for Southeast Asian countries like Thailand or Cambodia. In America, the immigrant experience and growing up as a second generation is very similar among Asian groups. I guess the term itself is too broad, as it simplifies a diverse set of cultures and people into a monolith. ps. I’m Indian (Punjabi)

There are around 22 officially recognised languages along with hundreds of dialects, even some extinct dialects, etc. Hindi and English are predominantly spoken apart from people's own mother tongue and regional languages. It works as a bridge language that nullifies the language barrier of people throughout the country. I can easily say that almost every Indian knows minimum of 3 languages. 2:03 every state of India has its own culture. What does it mean by "biggest cultural group" being only the South Indian, Maharashtrian, Punjabi states. Other states are vanished or what. No culture is bigger than the other. Every culture of each state is beautiful and amazing in its own way. There are overlappings and uniqueness, that's why it's unity in diversity. India is a subcontinent dude. Get your basics right. 8:28 Again regarding food also. There is mentioning of North Indian food,then south Indian food. All other cuisines are ignored as usual especially Eastern states. Didn't expect it when the guy is Indian itself. And - "Indian food" in UK, USA, any other western country or in general any country for that matter is nothing close to authentic Indian food. They make their version of Indian food. And 90% of people only know North Indian food that too typical 4-5 dishes.

My friends favorite places to eat is Applebees, Chilis, Dennys, Olive Garden, IHOP, Cheesecake Factory, Waffle House, Bonefish Grill, etc.. and I’m always like let’s get Asian food instead. Every time we spend like 20-30 each plate with small ass proportions and no flavor to be disappointed! Always over $100 for just 3 of us. I’m like if we are gonna spend $30 per person might as well go to kbbq and be satisfied!!! But nope same old salt and pepper 😞😢

Nah bro he is nri. He doesn't know India. India is the most diverse country in the world. It's like 30 different countries working as a single country and only 35 percent can speak Hindi 10 percent can speak English. Hindi is definitely not the national language it's only famous cause of the Hindi film industry. India doesn't have a national language. Indians can look as dark as a black person and as white as a white person. Every state in India has it's own different culture, food, films, language. Once a British officer said this uniun of state can't exist because a Tamil person is as different from panjabi as a Scottish is from Italian. India is the definition of tolerance, acceptance and unity in diversity. He has never been to India guarantee you that much. World has just started being open minded we have been doing it for centuries.

As a Mexican in California I kinda feel like ritesh. I still live in the city as my parents and still go there alsmost daily to eat but always ate Elsie a food and just don’t go out to eat Mexican dishes. I love burritos and tortas but most dishes I don’t like eating out I can make it better myself or I like my moms.

I'm and Indian and Just want to clarify that Sri Lanka has never been a part of India. It has always been an independent country. Yes they have similar cultures and cuisines and some part of the language as south Indian states of Tamil but its always been an independent country from thousands and thousands of years. Also about the Red dot "sticker" worn by the Indian woman has largely a cultural significance and 99% of the time a married woman wears it in Hindu Religion. It's kind of a sign that the woman is married just like people wear a ring to let know that they're married or in a relationship.

(not a country in Europe but the continent of Europe) Just like The French, Spanish, German, England, Italy, etc. have their own language, clothes, cuisine, rituals and culture, in the same way, The Punjabis, Bengalis, Gujaratis, Tamilians, Keralites, Maharashtrians, UP, Kashmiris etc. have their own distinct language, clothes, cuisine, rituals and culture. I don't know if this is because I'm British Indian but these stereotypes from the JK crew cast are so backwards, even Ritesh. I get that maybe there isn't a huge south asian diaspora in some parts of CA but damn? The haggling stereotype? Are American Indians seen as frugal? Many first gen Indians in the UK are pretty much seen as high earners for the most part. It's shocking to see how Indians are viewed by Americans, it is vastly different by a mile.

Punjab is a state in India. There's 28 (if I remember right) states. Then within that you have of course districts and dialects, etc. For example, I'm a Punjabi Hindu from Doaba districts so I speak Doabi, a dialect of the overarching Punjabi language family. Fun fact- Hinduism started in Punjab. Our holy scripture, The Vedas, was written here and a lot of our early culture and history then spread out to the rest of the subcontinent, into Afghanistan, SE Asia, etc. Then there's Punjabi Muslims and Punjabi Sikhs. Nowadays you have Punjab Christians and I'm sure lots of other diversity in terms of faiths but these are the main ones AFAIK. There is no national language. Hindi just became popular because it was seen as "more eloquent" and many of our first members of parliament and government in general were Hindi speakers. Nowadays the more posh language to speak is English. That being said, India has no national language, we have 23 or some odd official languages (ie. What people speak the most). In the north, we'd try to speak Hindi with someone not of our ethnic group to communicate and English with people from the South since not many (in my experience) can communicate in Hindi. Otherwise at home, with other Punjabi's, etc. I'd speak Punjabi and feel most comfortable doing so but if needed I would switch to my rough Hindi to get by and English.
