I'm a financial advisor: he does what most Americans do, just with a LOT more commas. When you're making 3M+ a year, buying some of that doesn't seem crazy. I see average Joe's making $40,000 buying $60,000 trucks. Glad he has the perspective to look back and learn.

To be able to admit that you were draining your money on excess stuff like multiple apartments and funding his crew’s lifestyle, is pretty admirable with the intention of telling people not to make the same mistakes he did.
