Hmong's traditional religion is NOT practicing "witch craft" like you said. We don't use magic, spells, curses, or whatnot to call on evil and harm others. It is actually the complete opposite. It is called shamanism which is communicating/connecting with our ancestors for blessings, healing, protection, and etc. Part of our practice is to remove evil and curses.

I'm Hmong (Don't mind my picture, its an AI generated picture that goes well with my username) and I think that Joe is sort of right about our religion being witchcraft. It's all superstition. If you ever read up on B.F. Skinner, a psychologist, experiment called, "Superstition in the pigeon" you'll realize that all religion, even our Hmong community, is based on rituals, wuwu magic, and desire outcomes. Humans are fundamentally flawed. We all want explanations about the world around us. Say if you were in a Hmong village, and someone found a body in the forest covered in bite marks. You probably thought that it was a monster or a ghost. Maybe that person slipped and fell, died, and an animal happened on snack on them. There's always a scientific explanation for everything. I know that this is going to sound harsh, but I think Hmong shamans are scam artists. There's a popular series on youtube that you can look up by a man called, "James Randi" he exposes fake psychics, tricksters with science. He even wager $1 million dollar to anyone till this day, and after his death if anyone can prove that magic, supernatural, the unknown arts exist.

There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord. Hello. Fellow Hmong here. The history I learned about my people came from word of mouth since there's not much documentation. After losing our war with China, we were segregated by colors. Hence why there's Hmong Green, White, Black and Red. (Might be more colors) Each color has a slightly different dialect. But some are almost a whole different language in itself. Anyone caught writing and speaking Hmong were killed Mostly hmong green and white migrated to the US. This is why we got the idea of sewing stories in our cloth. We also used to have blonde hair and blue eyes. Some of those traits are still strong in some families.

I can say as a hmong person, we sound like an amalgamation of mandarin, cantonese and hints of korean. I studied those languages and we share so many words with them but we just use them differently. I know that at least 30-40% of it is related to chinese vocabulary. It is common amongst hmong elders saying that chinese people originate from hmong but chinese wanted to create an empire as hmong people are warrior farmers. Hmong was forced to assimilate under chinese rule or die. A large amount of hmong people split and that's how they ended up in many corners of the world

Quick History: The word Mong refers to a region/place in central China (present day) before China was China. This location was called Mong which included many different group of people but they all spoke similar language. When the Yuan Danasty (Kublai Khan) was nearing it's end; there were a lot of fighting; some fled south into Loas, Vietnam and other went north to Mongol-lah which is today Mongolia. Prior to this place being called Mong; most of the people who settle in the area came from the steppes (horse riders) of today Mongolia; the Mong in the USA are remnant of the break away group that went south into Loas and Vietnam. As a fact the Mong (Hmong) who went into Vietnam were a pretty fearsome group; they were giving governorship over northern Vietnam as a buffer between Vietnam and China. There are a temple there honoring what the Vangs (Vuong; if a Vietnamese have this last name; his/her ancestor is most likely a Mong (Hmong)) in the region; also Hmong in northern Vietnam were known to keep the company of the Hmong bob tail dog (mix of wolf and dog) one of the four legendary dog of Vietnam. To summarizes it; it's like the Aztec, Incas and Mayans of the west. We can find their people and their people can point where the ancestor used to live but the land is not theirs no more! Thanks for bringing this to life; if you ever get a Hmong bob tail dog do another episode on it!

One thing is incorrect here. The villains of Mulan are the Huns who are a Mongolian army. The Hmongs are not related to them at all. It is possible that the word Huns sound the same as Hmong which is where the mix up stems from. The Hmong are a ethnic minority originally from Southern China. The persecution part is true though. Sick! Y’all actually know a good amount without being around a big community. Y’all should try to get Doua Moua on, I think he’s a good age to know about the immigrant experience and the Asian American experience. Twinjaz would be sick too!

I have been watching you guys ever since your first video and you guys have really shaped our community into something better and more relaxed compared to the early gangsta days. A lot of our generation, the baby boomers, really grow and take a lot of what you guys influence. Honestly, if you guys ever book anything up in Minneapolis, you guys would see huge love and respect. Everyone I know watches you guys, I watch you guys, my younger cousins watch you guys. Let me buy you guys plane tickets!

This is dope! I'm glad Hmong people got an episode but if possible, it'll be fun to watch a Hmong folk/Hmong RU-vidr on the show. Glad to hear the interesting story from Joe, didn't expect him to show photos and tell of his experience. A reason why there's a lot of Hmong folks supporting the JK Company is because JK is the first well known Asian RU-vidr. You look into RU-vid, you want to find someone that you can relate to and I think Bart and Joe did a great job on that along with the other members. Thank you!

They are very much in Thailand and I met some of them in Maesot, Thailand. In the Philippines I attended ati-atihan festival in 2020 ( just before the Covid lock down) the host asked us to wear traditional Hmong clothes. I went to Maesot and ask them for their suggestions and had it especially made for me and my two kids! They are nice people! ❤

Much love to the hmong brothers and sisters out there. These are some of the hardest working/loyal and family oriented people in the world. I know cause im from laos. If you wanna learn more about them. Check out the secret war in laos. You will learn how strong and capable they are. Most americans dont even know how much the hmong have sacrificed for the war on communism. Its a blessing and a honor know and be around such loving people. Trust me i am mien and we are pretty much the same.
