My dad can no longer read very well, so I bought him the audio book of The Hobbit (his favourite book growing up) on CD so he could listen to it on his old CD player
I gave my sister a book recently "A river of golden boys" by A. K. Mulford. I actually gifted my sister 12 books, 1 book for each month. I picked them out and wrapped them and she gets to open one book on the first day of the month. It's so much fun! I researched and came up with new books which she loved! I would reccomend doing that for a loved one!!
For the record, I would watch the "Off With Your Head" book tag. 😆 The last book I gifted someone was a copy of 'Elsewhere' by Gabrielle Zevin to a long-distance friend of mine, so we could read together! It was a favorite of mine and very impactful to me growing up and she expressed interest in reading it too. It will be interesting revisiting it to see if I still recommend it!
I used to also shy or cringe away from giving "cliché" answers. But then I came to embrace them because they became that for a reason. They are typically so well written and have resonated with so many people in so many ways that we have to applaud the authors for that! Especially since many of them connect to our childhoods, which are extremely impressionable years.
OMG it is SO FUNNY that you asked that - the last book I gave someone as a gift is called "Off With Their Heads"!! 😂😂 It's a new release by Zoe Hana Mikuta.
I gave the big illustrated Edition of Eragon to my friend because she loves Eragon so much. Before that I gave her The Travelling Cat Chronicles because she loves sad books and she cried on the beach reading it 😂❤ I also recently lent The Moth Keeper to a friend/colleague. :)
Jesse!!! One of the OG book tubers 🎉 been following you for almost 10 years now, in and out of several of my book slumps over the years and any video of yours I watch, your personality and silliness always puts a smile on my face! 😊 absolutely loving all this content you’ve been putting out recently, your hard work doesn’t go unnoticed!
I gave a copy of 'The Tea Dragon Society' because I loved it so much that I ordered the whole series and ended up having an extra copy. I gave it to one of my coworkers because I thought she would appreciate it and she gave it 5 stars!
Around Christmas time, I got one of my work friends Legends & Lattes; I also got my hairdresser both The Storied Life of AJ Fickry and A Song of Wraiths and Ruin
I just bought A little life to gift my friend on their bday. They've been waiting for this book for so long. I really hope they like the sob session with it.
"Fault in our stars" was my answer too. Even though some of the things were different in the movie than the book, I watched that movie more than 5 times
I'd been listening to you gush about A Series of Unfortunate Events for so long that I finally picked it up and, my GOD. I don't care that I'm an adult, this series is my new everything!! I'm on the final book now, and despite hearing so many people say that the finale is disappointing, I don't care. I love these characters and this story so much. Thank you so much for always recommending it, Jesse!!
I bought my kid the BN edition of In the Lives of Puppets but haven’t given it to them yet because it’s part of their June graduation gift. They love that book!
I really liked the idea of you reading your favourite childhood picture books!! Would totally watch it! As for the last book I gifted someone, itwould have to be "The Nutckraker". My mom told me that is one of her favourites movies/palys and since she never read the book I decided to gift it on Christmas. She loved it 😊
My sister recently got into reading and I have her my second copy of Tower of Dawn (back when TOG was coming out I would buy all the special editions because I was crazy hahaha). She’s obsessed with Chaol and she was so so happy to have a physical copy
ooh, this was a fun book tag! the last book i gave as a gift was to my best friend, and it was a puffin in bloom of edition of little women for us to buddy read. the cutest cover i have ever seen!
I recently bought among the hidden for my friend because she hasn’t read it, and I saw a nice copy for $0.50 at the library book sale. I have yet to give it to her tho Honestly adulting is the worst for scheduling with friends
Maybe do a video where you read picture books and do an activity related to each book. I love when you've done similar videos in the past and I think it would really work with picture books.
The last book I gave as a gift was A Brighter Flame. I gave it to my mom for Mother’s Day last year. It was the Mother’s Day box from Once Upon a Bookclub.
I have 2 younger cousins who are graduating high school this month. One this weekend and one next weekend. I got them both a copy of OH The Places You'll Go by Dr. Seuss. I feel like that's a perfect graduation gift. When I was like 14, I said I hoped I got it as a grad gift. My grandparents bought it then, then gave it to me when I graduated. It's one of the few grad gifts I still have. I always notice it on the bookshelf or remember I have it at just the right moments. When I'm feeling down, I read it a few times and remember that someone believes in me and that the ups and downs are equally normal and important in life. I could literally recite that book almost entirely from memory
My last book gift was to my best friend as was 'How Do You Live? by Genzaburo Yoshino' because it was described as being like reading a Studio Ghibli movie
I got my friend a special edition copy of Iron Flame with the black edges. Amazon cancelled her pre-order so she was very sad until I sent it to her. P.S. Corduroy was a bear made of corduroy. One of my favorite books from childhood as well.
holy shit i paused the video on every question to think of my own answer before i heard yours, and tell me why Shakespeare was also the first thing in my head at "what author would you hang out with for a day" 🤣🤣 im sticking with that though, im genuinely a fan lol his writing is so flowy and beautiful and philosophical, but also so fuckin dumb and goofy and pun-tastic. i wanna pick his brain, find out what he likes to do, see how much of that goofiness is just his personality.
I sent my brother-in-law's dad a book called Fore! by P.G. Wodehouse for his birthday earlier this week. I haven't read it, but he's a huge golf guy, and I thought Wodehouse might be up his alley. Turns out he's one of his favorite authors, so that really worked out!
My answers (literally the first thing which on second thought are not completely true)(Completely honest!) 1) Chacha Choudhary comics 2) Harry Potter 3) Wuthering Heights 4) Buddy reading for the first time and reading her comments in the common doc. 5) Harry Potter 6) Chain of gold (I actually hate the series but it still came to mind😂) 7) Kaz Brekkar (no idea why) 8) London (I don't even know which book inspired this answer) 9) Dark archives (This popped in my head cause u recommended this!) 10) Holly Jackson
The last book I gave to someone as a gift was crossed by Ally Condie. It’s the second book in a dystopian romance series. I’m good friends with an eighth grader at my church and we talk about books and give each other recommendations all the time. I love gifting her books.
idk if it was the definitive *last* book I gifted someone but the last one I can think of is gifting my cousin The Bloody Chamber & Other Stories by Angela Carter. you talking about wanting to re-read certain childhood books makes me think of how Gavin at Gavin Reads It All is constantly making me want to reread books and series from my childhood!! I actually bought the first 14 books of the From the Files of Madison Finn books because of him, as that was one of my fav series growing up that I didn't have the books of anymore. It's one of those situations where I regret getting rid of stuff as a kid!
reading the Harry Potter series for the first time was so fun. I didn't find out about the series until book 4 was out. We listened to the first four as a family. And then we became fans who waited in line for the midnight releases. I would read them as face as I could, then I would read them to the family. I wish another multigeneration beloved series would come along. ps I found out about the series from my nieces & nephews and my father-in-law. "If these diverse groups were loving the books, I should check it out"
The palace of illusion was the last book I gifted to my friend, trying to get her to read more books, might as well start from a retelling of stories she already knows 😁
Technically not a "gift" in the sense of birthday or event, but I gave my friend my copies of Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None" as well as "Murder on the Orient Express" because she'd never read them and I wanted her too. But officially holiday/bday gifts...About two years ago I gave my bestie "How to Be a Victorian," because she's really interested in other time periods.
I gave my brother The Windup Girl, by Paolo Bacigalupi for his birthday at the end of last month. I've never read it, it was just the first book on his wishlist I found in B&N.
The last book that actually got gifted was the parasite storyboard book for a sibling. And then there's two copies of Dracula daily that were meant to be Christmas gifts last year, but will have wait to be given this December Getting gifts for people is fun but I'm so bad at delivering them :')
I gave my sister City of Spies by James Ponti! We met the guy I would say, James to be around him. He’s such a grounded to earth type of guy. He helped me meet Stuart. That part is in my video actually…
I'm glad everyone still had their heads by the end of this video 😂 Last book I gifted to someone was "Seeing Stars: A Complete Guide to the 88 Constellations". It was for my Step-dad this past Christmas as I knew mom was getting him a telescope! Really gorgeous book and lots of great information on the stars
My favorite series as a child was the warriors cats series by Erin Hunter. It’s so good! I recommend anyone 8+ read it! I still read the new ones that come out to this day and I’m a senior in high school now. Also a book series I would want them to make into a movie has to be either the Rangers apprentice series or the Fablehaven series. Both are amazing and I recommend anyone 10+ read them!
Last gave Marcus Aurelius Meditations to my Dad who is super into philosophy and stuff. This was really fun to watch, not only because I could guess some of the books😃. Seriously though a lot of Agatha Christies books are amazing if who dunnits are your thing.
My book memory was reading Hamlet in high school😅 my English teacher was also the drama teacher and I was in the drama club. While they were rehersing a scene I wasn't in, I was working on homework. To be clear, I loved Hamlet. It's such an interesting look into paranoia and mental illness. Anyway, I got to the famous "To be or not to be" soliloquy. With the context, I realized for the first time that it's about suicide. As a teen who struggled with that, I found the poem relatable. To this day, I recite that poem over and over when I get in that headspace. That poem is able to put into words an experience i cant seem to put into words. even with the old English, it's beautiful. I've looked up every word so when i recite it, i know exactly what I'm actually saying😅 that poem single handedly made Shakespeare classic as far as I'm concerned
The last book I gifted? Actually this is a 2 for 1. My mother came to visit during April, and I'd set aside some books for an upcoming unhaul. I decided to offer her my Illumicrate edition of The Ivory Key, with the blue sprayed edges and note from the author. She seemed more intrigued by it than I was. And because my brother's birthday was coming up right after she was due to fly back home, I gave her this Wizard's Spellbook (I can't really remember the title) which I think was basically a fan made binding of random spells set for the Harry Potter universe, which my brother is a huge fan of.
Great Video Jesse and I would be so down for you doing a vlog of you reading your favorite childhood classic books I think that would be an awesome video and the last book I gave as a gift to my friend was Hocus Pocus The Sequel 💚🧡💜📖💚🧡💜 Have a Great Day tomorrow and Happy Reading 📖😊
I said Kenji immediately too and then Jesse says he thought Kenji and my jaw absolutely dropped. I stand by my answer I don’t care if it is cliche so Kenji Kishimoto or Percy Jackson.
I gave my brother 'The Transmogrification of Roscoe Wizzle' for Christmas last year. It's about a kid who eats too much fast food and turns into a giant cockroach. I read it when I was a kid and remember thinking it was pretty funny!
Thank you for your ever-entertaining videos. The last book I gave to somebody as a gift was I'm Afraid Debbie from Marketing Has Left for the Day by Morten Münster. I gave it to my mother as a "well done" gift after the inheritance case after my late father had ended. My answers to the tag: Favorite Picture Book: Pandekagekagen by Sven Nordqvist Book Series I Loved as a Child: Pedersen & Findus by Sven Nordqvist Worst book I've read or tried to read: Hitman Damnation by Raymond Benson Favorite reading or book memory: The release party for my own debut novel A book I loved as a Movie: The Lord of The Rings A book you wish they would make into a movie: Skulduggery Pleasant A book character I would like as a friend: Modesty Blaise A place I want to visit because of a book I've read: Ireland A non-fiction book I recommend: Pseudowork by Anders Fogh Jensen & Dennis Nørmark If I could hang out with an author for a day, who would it be and why: Erin Morgenstern, because she loves tea and cats as much as I do, and I think we could make the best jam session ever. I also think she'd be awesome to roleplay with!
I gave my friend the Heartstopper coloring book! A few days later she went out to buy skin color pecils because she realized she couldn't color in anyone other than Nick and darcy w the og pencils😭 I wanted to gift her a collection of poems that was too expensive, but i eventually found it in a booksale for her (she paid tho lol)
1. I don't really remember any picture books from my childhood. So I'm going to pass on this one. 2. The power of five series by Anthony Horowitz. I loved ravens gate growing up, it was the perfect blend of exciting, scary and suspenseful. And to this day I still enjoy it, but it's not as epic as I remember. 3. Ready player 2 is the first thing that pops into my mind whenever I think of 1 star reads. God I can't believe that book exists sometimes. 4. I really don't know, pass 5. The Martian 6. Vicious. I need that book to be adapted in some way, shape or form like yesterday. 7. Sade from where sleeping girls lie. I think she's awesome and I think we'd probably get along. 8. I guess Japan, but I can't really associate that with a book. 9. The ultimate history of video games. It's exactly what it says on the tin, and it's super fascinating. 10. I never like these questions because I know I'd just be super awkward. I'd love to meet Phillip Pullman, but hang out with him, no.
I gave my mom poison for breakfast by lemony Snicket she still hasn't read it and it kills me I actually saw you talk about the book on insta and that's why I read it
