The Offa's Dyke Path is a National Trail of 177 miles. On day four we leave the famous book town of Hay-on-Wye for Knighton, which takes us close to half way at the end of day five.
On the morning of day four we leave the campsite of Radnors End and head for the riverside near Hay-on-Wye for our continued journey along the Offa's Dyke Path.
We pass through many country lanes and follow remote paths to arrive east Newchuch where we observe that the church provides rest and resources for the tired hiker.
The next big part of our journey is acquiring Hergest Ridge, which strangly has a corpse of Monkey Trees on the top. Also, due to the flat nature of the flat ground in the 19th century horse racing was held here and there are remaining scars on the landscape that tell the story.
We once again observe the dyke on Hergest Ridge Common before descending in to Kington. We appreciate the old buildings in the town before escaping the urban landscape and pass through Kington Golf Club. Next we pass through Herrock Hill Common and some time later we make use of a nearby Hill Fort to find a wild camping site for the night.
Next morning we review the wild camping spot before heading through more countryside. Eventually, we head down into Knighton and visit the Offa's Dyke centre which we discover is closed until Spring. We then pass through a park next to the River Teme. Crossing the river and railway line we make use of the near by campsite who have offered us the Backpackers Barn for our overnight stay. This gives us the opportunity to dry out the tent and recharge our electronics.

Glad this stage was a bit less muddy. Looking forward to your next instalment which will be unknown territory for me.

When the trail is in Wales it’s pretty descent, not so much when in Shropshire. Current on another trail so difficult to send you a link but if you check on my channel page you should be able to find a trail review for Offa’s Dyke which will cover that and other useful bits of info for the trail. Have a great trek it’s a fantastic experience. Nigel
