What a delightful film- full of humanity, gentle and sometimes slapstick humor. A real gem. Soviet films were so unknown or unrated and yet have great soul and depth- a heck of a lot better than the mindless crap coming out of Hollywood today. Thank you for posting this.

My mother is absolutey in love with this movie, but the only language she understands is Spanish. Is there any chance we can get it with Spanish subtitles? It would be her dream come true! She loves it so much, she's seen it once with me (I translated the English subs for her into Spanish many years ago) and ever since, she often watches with no subs at all, just because she loves the movie that much. Just introduced this film to my family last week. I was worried that they might not be into it because they don’t watch many foreign films. The first Russian film they had ever seen…and they loved it! We had a great time.

I watched it when I was a kid in the ’80s of China. Still my all-time favourite comedy! Thank you for sharing.

I wachted the movie with the recommendations of my doughter who just travelled to Russia. It has filled me with loughter. It was a splendid Russian comedy movie.ibliked it very much.

Gosh, this is an amazing movie.

Personally, I believe Soviet cinema to be indeed extremely underrated, although in comparison to most Hollywood movies (let alone modern chewing gum for the brain like the Marvel ones), it's way subtler, more intelligent and humane. Not arguing Hollywood does not have its masterpieces of cinema, of course it does, but the overwhelming majority of the movies it's made/making cannot really hold up to comparison. I mean, Soviet movies are also not all perfect, but the above applies to the majority of them (at least to the dozens/hundreds of them one can find on the Mosfilm RU-vid channel). Not defending the Soviet Union itself, just talking about the cinema. Thank you Mosfilm!

Wonderfull movie. However Id translate it a little different. More freely and more fancy to catch up the movie humour to be more understandable. Plus tovarishch is not mr.or mrs. but comrade. But the film is great .Soviet films and humour r wonderfull as far as i know Russian language.Unfortunately the English subtitles cant convey Russian humour.

What a great movie. Thoroughly enjoyed . I feel for Olya. Yura is a rascal. He deserved the slap. Kudos to Tolya and Meany. Last scene was unforgettable.

I love this movie. Its so funny. I only wish the English translation was better. So many funny moments are lost, but its still better then nothing. I wish all the Mosfilm movie were redone with professional dubs like they do with Netflix. Now that would've been special.

Did not know that Soviet cinema was translated into English. It is Soviet cinema, solid masterpieces that have stood the test of time. Modern Russian - films (for the most part) - one-day, looked and forgot.

Ah, Soviet Russia. I suppose so much has changed since I was there. It is the little details of culture that bring out the humor. This was one of the 'new films' when I started Russian. Tough for beginners. No subtitles in sight. Then when I lived there, got a lot more out of it.

Just finished watching it (over 2 sessions) and it’s in equal parts, hilarious and heartwarming! I liked Andrei Myagkov in this movie more than in Irony of Fate although that is also good.

Пересмотрел Джентльмены удачи только что. Теперь смотрю это. Такое уже в кино больше не повторится. Когда родители смотрели я не понимал на сколько гениальные советские фильмы.

Конечно, перевод не передаёт все нюансы языка. Но, думаю, общее настроение понятно. Раз вызывает эмоции, на которые расчитывал автор.

I like these Soviet movies. The English sub-titles mean it is slow drudge the first viewing, better the 2nd time, and it gets to the point I can let them run and through that, get the nuances. What strikes me dramatically with this one, is that I recognise the Office, its management staff hierarchy, its filing system, the office staff politics and so on. I have worked in offices like this. And that strikes me - it is a real education. Back then our propaganda media portrayed all Soviet existence as being drab, hungry, without any personal life / humour. Its true that not all in Soviet territories can be expected to be living as the workers in this movie, but if none did, then this movie would have no connection or relevance with its audience. Working in our offices here, I had no idea that any worker could have a life like the one I, and those around me, had. Today, the anti-Russia propaganda is obvious to see. We are meant to be FREE and DEMOCRATIC countries - yet I have great doubts. I suspect that today, many Western nations are more Marxist, communist, tyrannical that is Russia. That is not saying that any country is perfect - but our elites should work on the problems they have created at home. But back to this movie. Although it fits the traditional Romance story progression, there is still a lot about it that is new to me. The camera work was great and in a few spots utterly brilliant. Audio too. I confess that now I am watching mainly old Soviet movies. I have no idea how to speak or understand Russian language and your alphabet is truly bewildering. I looked and I try to make some of the sounds, impossible for my voice. - And to think that little children learn it . . . .

Good night to everyone: With an actor of such enormous stature (not only because of his physique) like the georgian Oleg Valerianovich Basilashvili, this film, let's say the average one, takes a special toll. This impressive actor who has a varied cast of works in the history of Soviet cinema, and then Russian one, achieved in my opinion, the pinnacle in the television series "The Master and Margarita". This was Bortko's attempt to make a screen adaptation of Bulgakov's masterpiece. Una auténtica obra de arte. Anyway, this film made in 1977 is very welcome, like most of those produced at Mossfilm. P.S.:a special mention for the Vladimir Menshov's film "Moscow does not believe in Tears". Otros dos monstruos de la escena, como Vera Alentova y el tristemente desaparecido Aleksey Batalov. Cine ruso, ¡hurra!

Если бы ко всем фильмам сделали дублированный перевод, американский рынок схавал все в два счета, не говоря о том что англоязычная аудитория гигантская, весь мир бы смотрел. Они бы узнали нашу ментальность и понимали бы нас лучше. 10-100 миллионов просмотров. В сша они устали от своего кино, оно себя исчерпало. Советско российская медиа была новым вдохновением для них.
