Mike Judge was an engineer before he found success writing for tv and movies, which is why this movie is so accurate. This movie completely permeated the culture at a startup I worked at in 1999. We moved into our offices for the first time, had a pizza and movie night our first week to hangout & get to know everyone, and watched Office Space together. We had the Office Space kits (red swingline staplers, cover sheets for TPS reports, mats where you could jump to conclusions…all of it. We used so many quotes from the movie too. I was promised a piece of cake. Ummmm…..did you get the memo… Sounds like somebody’s got a case of the Muuuundays! All of them. We were acquired within 6 months. I was a paper millionaire for 7 gorgeous months but couldn’t sell any of my stock for a year and then the dot-com bubble burst. Good times. In hindsight, if I had fallen into $2-3M at 25 years old, would have been found dead of a heart attack snorting cocaine off of a stripper’s boobs in Las Vegas.

"Milton" was a Mike Judge cartoon. From Wiki: "'Milton' is a series of animated shorts created by Mike Judge in 1991. They aired on Saturday Night Live in the mid-1990s and, like Judge's other early shorts, appeared on MTV's Liquid Television in the early 1990s. In the cartoon shorts, all voices are provided by Judge. The 1999 film Office Space was based upon the cartoons, and featured actor Stephen Root in the role of Milton Waddams. Although Milton was the title character from the shorts, the role was a supporting character in the Office Space feature film, as was his boss, Bill Lumbergh (played by actor Gary Cole in Office Space). Milton traveled to different locations despite being consistently late for his taxis to take him there."

My good friend worked with Gary (Lumberg) Cole on a TV show a few years ago and he said that he would occasionally throw out a “yeah, riiiight” in conversation once and a while. My friend also worked with Steven (Milton) Root as well. Both great actors that turn up everywhere.

Not just a great comedy, it's both a culturally and historically important movie. The line deliveries are so memorable too, my favorite being Lawrence's "I'll tell you what I'd do man. Two chicks at the same time man." -__-

One of the best movies of all time for me. Mike Judge is a legend! I grew up watching Beavis & Butthead and King of the Hill which he produced and voiced. His movie Idiocracy is my favorite movie, I just can't believe so many people have never seen it or Office Space.

Peter is my spirit animal. For about 20 years I have strived to become what he becomes in this movie, still trying, I'll get there some day. The studio told Mike Judge he couldn't use gangster rap, and he convinced them it was essential.

This movie nailed the office environment, and the soul sucking that can go along with it. It's why it's timeless.

"Can't blame him under that stress, though." The funny thing is, he probably has one of the most valuable jobs _to_ the company - translating between the vague nonsense of customer requests and the technical detail of engineering information is a very important task, and having customers and engineers communicate directly doesn't often go well. (Though it can be frustrating when you yourself DO have technical knowledge, and simply want the in-between to communicate your words directly to the engineer without translation, and they refuse to do so... the number of times I've spent three weeks dealing with a problem, only to finally manage to speak to an engineer directly and get it solved in five minutes.)

I believe that there is a deleted scene where they reveal that Lumbergh did actually die in the fire, but they felt it was too dark of an ending so they cut it. This movie is 22 years old now and it's still one of the most amazingly relevant films out there.
