Hawthorne police and LA County Fire responded to what was initially reported as an assault that got upgraded to a gun shot wound per LACoFD radio traffic, arriving law enforcement were met with gunfire from the suspect. the suspect shot two people including a Hawthorne police officer. the officer was quickly transported and the second victim was later transported to area hospital. SWAT teams and K9 units were called to the scene for suspect search and for clearing of locations in the perimeter set up by patrol units.
