Officers gather for procession to honour Toronto police dog killed in line of duty 

Bingo was a police officer, no differnt than any of the 2 legged kind. He served his city and his partner, and deserves respect. My condolences to his partner and his family.

RIP buddy. It bought tears to my eyes as I thought of my own Australian shepherd at home. The bond with a loyal dog can not be compared.

This is not just a dog.... this is a canine working dog who gave his life in the line of duty to his community. Descendant of the great grey wolf and possessing more memory bank than humans. I saluted with the peace officers and I prayed for a special welcoming committee to welcome him in heaven. Just a beautiful companion and a hero. Blessed Be. Peace to the World.

A lot of people don’t get it. Bingo was one of police officers. He was in duty to protect civilians. He should deserve more respect and appreciation from us. It’s not about human or dog. He died as a police officer. Thank you so much your service Bingo. RIP.

Heartbreaking. Losing your partner, an innocent beautiful best friend, is unimaginable. I’ve lost my pup at the end of her life, but to lose one at such a young age in such a horrific way…and knowing that dog saved your life…I just couldn’t handle that

This is absolutely heartbreaking. I am a born and raised Torontonian. It is because of the selfless acts of bravery by countless unknown officers and K9s that I can raise my children in this city. The city that has rapidly deteriorated due to our rising violent crime rates. To Sgt. Smith, his family and to every member of the Toronto Police Sevice - I am truly sorry for your loss. I cannot imagine the pain that Sgt. Smith is going through. Seeing him, and other officers, straining to hold their composure spoke volumes in moments of complete silence. And now to our fallen officer, K9 Bingo... you are one of too many unsung heroes that we have lost far too soon. Your paw print impact on this city is felt today. Your bravery and loyalty to your job and your handler was without question. I have no doubt that your sacrifice likely saved the life of your partner. You didn't deserve this. The words "thank you for your sacrifice" do not feel like they are strong enough to adequately convey how we feel. As it is with the loss of any public servant in the line of duty. All I can say is that I am grateful for all you have done to keep our city safer and that I am so terribly sorry that your life was given to ensure the apprehension of a dangerous individual. Who's a good boy? You are. And you are forever our hero ❤ Rest in Peace.

20yr state police. Did not like how the reporters just kept calling Bingo a dog. A Police K9 is NO different than a fellow officer. If you attack or kill a police K9, it has the same penalties as human officers. Everyone in LE treats K9's as fellow officers be it city, state or federal LE. RIL Bingo!

Too bad for the one who killed that dog. Even in jail there are criminals who are sensitive to animals. I am very sure that if he would had happened to kill the human officer. He have high chances to be honored in prison. But he killed a dog! That can change his destiny. That’s my believe, because I have hear people getting death threats just for killing a raccoon. In prison killing or hurting a kid or animals is something serious.

As a dog, I truly feel respected and honored by this ceremony and parade of humans worshipping my dead colleague.

This brought tears to my eyes, over in Canada and America, you know how to conduct a proper service to honour your K9’s . Those dogs are Officers and should be treated as such. Over here in the UK there is no such ceremony but there should be! (Ex West Yorkshire Police Dog handler with Ben)

The punishment for murdering a Police Horse or Dog should be longer than fir a Human- they are innocent and dearly beloved of god. Only dogs are true christians .
