How does 49 seconds of weird music get stuck so hard in my head that it's still an earworm some thirty-whatever years later?

My coworker is name Vernon..I literally yelled Hey Vern last night. He was like please don't ever say that again..made me think of theme today

I love this whole song. It captures his character so well. The chaotic goodness. The friendly ineptitude. Ernest was such a great character.

This was one of my favorite Saturday morning shows as a kid! I watched this and Peewee every week! God, such good memories. Thank you, and rest in peace, Jim Varney... and thank you to everyone else who was involved in making this wonderful show.

I have a theory. One day the gods of TV sitcom theme songs split this song in two. One half became the theme to Seinfeld. The other half, the theme to South Park.

A mighty blast from the past, I used to watch this on CBS Saturday mornings and in reruns as a kid. Rest in heaven, Mr. Varney.

This makes me sad. I remember when I was little I had the complete series on dvd. I would make my mom watch it and we all had a good time. I’m 15 now and all I can think about is how life is passing me by. Ernest was such a big part of my childhood because he reminds me of my grandpa. I was obsessed when I was little. Ugh 😪😭 (yall can stop with the edgy replies lol)

The show was before my time but i did grow up watching the movies. Mostly Ernest Scared Stupid but my all time favorite is Ernest goes to jail

Yes this ans Pee-Wee's Playhouse, both were on during my childhood. Though, I think with the popularity of Ernest, they actually tried to have Jim Varney's Ernest P. Worrell to compete with Paul Reubens' Pee-Wee Herman. At least both didn't throw negative insults at each other like celebrities today do.

Loved this show when I was in the 5th grade. Wish it could've had more seasons ! Those 80s graphics are priceless.

Many forget, when this aired, "Ernest Saves Christmas", came out in theaters. From November to December, you could watch Ernest, for free on Saturdays. Then fork out some bucks, to see him at the movies.

I remember Jim Varney as Ernest P. Worrell. I remember being a fan at first watching him in commercials and then in Ernest Goes To Camp. So I was excited when CBS put this out in the Fall of 1988. I remember as an 11 year old enjoying Ernest's antics every Saturday. And I always liked the Lonnie Don skits, even though every sound effect he did was just a fart sound. They don't make them like this anymore. Ah, back when Saturday morning was awesome.

This show is a nightmare. You ARE Vern. Ernest is constantly making your life difficult and strange.

Oh man, this brings back SO many memories for me! My cousins and I used to watch this on Saturday mornings after sleepovers at our grandparents’ house! It was the only show that both generations considered hilariously funny. My grandparents didn’t get Ren & Stimpy, but everyone loved Ernest!
