The civilian version of the J8 is the Jeep Wrangler (with a long wheelbase). The chassis, braking, suspension and engine have all been uprated and ruggedised on the J8 for the consistently extreme conditions that a military user faces. But on a base level, the vehicles are very similar.
Just thought I'd throw an update out there... The J8 IS available in a civilian model now - it's called the Thrasher and is built by Jankel - the same Company

The Jeep J8 is a militarised variation of the Jeep Wrangler and as such is only directly available to government organisations. In particular, the Pegasus is a specialised Special Operations vehicle and is not available on the civilian market. For more information, visit our website (see video description). The sites are currently under development and will be updated soon. Alternatively, search for our official Jeep J8 page on Facebook.
The Pegasus SOV is not designed for missions of the same length as the Al Thalab. Due to the size and GVW of the Al Thalab it is capable of remaining in the field for longer periods of time without refuel or resupply. However the Pegasus is outfitted with, or has provision for, extremely high-tech equipment and is therefore a far more suitable vehicle for high-speed incursions and general Special Forces use. The underlying Toyota / Jeep platforms also better suit different organisations.
With all honesty, I'd rather take this variant than the civilian version. not because it looks cool but I use one of those where I live, I can live without the weapons mount system and mil-spec electronics :P

No offense intended, but that's not an accurate statement... The Military HAS been using Jeeps (Commando's and J8's) for several years.. They are just not public use and very many of them...
After Rummsfeld got beat up over the no armor situation...we got armor doors. But they were too heavy such that the vehicles couldn't accelerate and had sloppy steering. That was one "battle" that took a while to win.
at 1.34t for J8 according to wiki , i couldnt agree more but is maybe 'cause even heavy tanks are vulnerable at some point so it is useless to exagerate with thickness
