Here we are 3 years later and Raspberry Pi is on back order leaving us with only the Orange Pi. Unfortunately there’s painfully little information on the net about the OPi. I’m wondering if I follow the same steps outlined here would it apply to the OPi? Great information either way. 👍🏼
Your video is just what the doctor ordered, and led to my decision to set up HomeBridge in Raspberry Pi as opposed to other platforms. Just one small request: speak up a bit when doing your instructions. Thanks very much! The Friendly Grizzly
This might a good solution for me. I’ve had little success with integrating he Ring plugin running homebridge running in my Mac. Time to get a Pi I guess.
Once I put the Image on the raspi how to I see what I need to access . Do I need to have a computer screen hooked up to it or can I see what’s going on with some sorta app for my iPhone ?
EXCELLENT video Rey! I have a Raspberry Pi 3B+ gathering dust and have been waiting for an easy Homebridge solution to connect my Ring doorbell. Thank you!
Thanks to you I’m going to give another thought to raspberry... I don’t understand nothing about how to write code but with this update seems to be so easy!.
Lauryn Corr You and me both! It was a struggle getting my first Pi working with Homebridge so this solution is just what the Dr. ordered for users like us. Thanks for watching!
Definitely. Lower power consumption and its really not much different from any other HomeKit hub you may have, but does so much more. Thanks for watching!
The wallpaper in the Home app on the iPhone? That was a photo of my home that I redrew in Adobe Illustrator and turned into vector art. Then just saved as a jpg and used as a wallpaper in the Home app. Thanks for watching!
Okay... So I've heard of raspberry pi before but I guess I always thought it was used for something else. Maybe a stupid question, but would I only need one raspberry pi to make non-homekit devices compatible with HomeKit or would I need one raspberry pi per device?
Raspberry Pi can be used for just about anything! Homebridge is just one of many uses. Yes, you only need one and I believe the device limit is 100. I think it’s possible to also run multiple instances of Homebridge if needed. Thanks for watching!
I am running a UniFi setup with their camera and steam machine pro. Would this allow me to gain access to my accessories like UniFi doorbell, camera views, shark robot vacuums.. etc? Also is this kit better than hoobs or other kits?
You’d need to research if a plug-in is available and what functionality it supports. This is what Hoobs is based on. With Hoobs you’re paying for marketing and packaging.
Hi, do you have to keep homebridge running on the computer or laptop the whole time ? When I shut it off then the items are no longer available on my iPhone or iPad!
Hello there... great video. I got a question about all this lol. I’m new too raspberry pi. I was wondering what you thought using homebridge compared to hoobs? I think it’s hoobs?
Hoobs is simply a variant of this version, created because setting up Homebridge was once a difficult/intimidating process for consumers. With this official image, that is no longer the case. Also, any updates will appear in this official Homebridge version before Hoobs. Hoobs also has fancy marketing and an all in one solution you can buy. I personally recommend this over Hoobs. Thanks for watching! 🙏
@@ReyG_HKSH awesome... thank you for the reply... one more question for you and again I’m new to all this... but am I connecting the raspberry pi to my router? After setting it up on my laptop?
Thanks for the video, I will definitely use it to do that for the first time. But I have a doubt, as I'm not so studied in electronics. You installed a plugin for the door bell, and then while starting with Home, it's recognized through home bridge. How homebeidge knows that the installed pluging is for that door bell and not for other door bell you may have? In my case, I have 3 curtains I want to add in home, how I know which one I'm adding? Thanks!
The plug-in works with the Ring account so any devices tied to that account are able to be displayed in the Home app if you allow it to and you can configure it to display any name you’d like to under HomeKit. Thanks for watching 🙏
I’m experiencing about a 10-12 second delay on my magic home bulbs via Siri/homebridge. No delay when using the Home app. I previously had the bulbs running via the Alexa app with zero lag. Any ideas what could cause this? My pi 3b+ is connected via Ethernet
Very helpful video. I will be setting up a HomeKit “home” someday soon and I’m looking for this kind of video. But I had to bail out early because the “music” loop drove me batty. I think young RU-vidrs tend to think that a background loop is a good thing, but check out mature RU-vidrs and you’ll see that they use it for between scenes and at times there is no narration, but rarely as a background.
This comment made it make so much sense. I was confused! So a rasberry pi can basically be a low cost HOOBs or smart home hub. Still not 100% sure but it seems awesome!
There are different versions of Raspberry Pi and the latest and greatest will always be more expensive. An older Pi will run HomeBridge just fine. Thanks for watching! 🙏
I followed steps in video and got to a point to where the HomeBridge program is asking for login credentials. I tried admin as login and as password but that is not working. Suggestions please.
Rey G Thanks! I appreciate that. I tried to do that but for some reason it didn’t work. Not sure if it is case sensitive. Gonna try one more time and if it don’t work I’ll just rename the devices.
@@ReyG_HKSH Thanks! Another thing I had to do at setup was switch my 2FA from text to email. For some reason it was unable to authenticate with the code from text but the minute I switched it to email it worked. 🧐 Got my garage on home bridge as well. Thanks! You have yourself a new subscriber now!
can anybody send me a full config for my TV i am to dumb to do STRG C and V or i usually copy it at the wrong position or something like this, hope for help thanks
Rey G My router is Technicolor TG789vac v2. I’ve read the wiki page for camera troubleshooting and contact the developer that stated he cannot do anything for me at this moment.
I don’t own any Nest devices but a search on The Homebridge plugin page yields at lease a dozen results. Good place to do some research on what might be the better of the group would be the Homebridge sub on Reddit. Thanks for watching! 👍
@@ReyG_HKSH I really appreciate the reply back and it was a great video. One last question... I ordered the 4 components and looking forward to them getting here. Have you had any heat issues with the red/white case?
I have had zero heat issues with the red and white case as shown in this video. BUT, I am ONLY running Homebridge which I don’t believe will tax the system enough to cause it to overheat. If you will be running additional, more processor intensive tasks YMMV.
Rey G Today, I got my Raspberry Pi 4/Homebridge up in a few minutes. Afterwards I was able to get my Nest thermostat up/working in about 10 minutes within the Home app. Thanks again!
Jason Hansen That is awesome! Glad this video helped and you might be surprised at what plugins have been developed for Homebridge, sometimes it’s worth just doing a search and seeing what comes up.
Check the HomeBridge links in the description. There is an easy to follow guide on how to connect to work-if but you need to do it upon initial set-up. Thanks for watching! 🙏
