FUN FACT Shannon was on another show and Johnny was in charge of it and he told Shannon to audition for this show and said she would 100% be in his group so not shocked she made it
AJ Haines dawn was also guaranteed a spot cause she did an interview this year saying that diddy paid a lot of money to get her out of a record deal with poo bear the producer after her audition.
Wonita aka D.Woods was also in a contract when she auditioned. But it was clear Diddy liked her because he kept pestering her about sending her home and never did.
@@Fodemanga They gave her a demo deal. They set you up with top producers and have you record a demo to see if they like the musical direction direction. If they like your demo they offer you a contract. I heard she recorded the demos but didn't like industry so turned down the contract to make albums.
@@mtjproducer2008 yep! NeYo wrote some of her music. "Better Love" and "Lonely Road" were 2 of my favorites she did (I think its still up on her SoundCloud). We were friends on MySpace when she started working on the music. Yep, she did have a contract with Diddy and hated how the industry was so she didn't pursue it further. Lucky her since Diddy is / was notorious for treating artists like cash cows. She actually taught at the performing arts school she graduated from (she's now an administrator there), got married (Dominique Meija now), and had a baby.
Jay Hi5 have you seen any of Taquitas videos on RU-vid or heard any of her music since the show? Back then I would say I agree with you but after seeing how her musical style is soo different and borderline alternative I dont think her style would have fit in what became Danity Kane... Maybe the entire dynamic would have changed
Picking D.Woods (Wanita) was prob one of the biggest mistakes Diddy made. Yeah she could do it all, BUTTTTTT She Never bonded or vibed with the other girls and seemed so disinterested in them and the band. I think Taquita would have brought a much better vibe and she wanted to be in the band sooo bad. D.Woods later admitted she never wanted to even be in a band, just use it to further her “career”
Melissa sang the same song Aundrea charmed Diddy with at the karaoke bar during season one. There is ZERO comparison. Maybe this helped Diddy realize that vocally and star power wise Melissa couldn’t hold a candle to Aundrea.
I think Shannon had a strong head voice, not chest voice. Like in this clip, she was singing from her chest it seemed like, as if she was trying to show case that she can belt from deep within and that is not her strong point. I think she just picked the wrong song that's all. Like she gets a lot of slack for this clip but in my opinion she still sounded better than Melissa. And I felt so bad for Jasmine because I really preferred her over Wanita. I mean, once she was in the group, I did like her vocals but I always liked Jasmine for the same reason Diddy did, she took it off that poppy vibe and added some BET type swag to it.
This whole process of putting together a band is BS. It doesn’t take 9 weeks and ridiculous challenges to put a band together. All that’s really needed is an audition process and a couple of callbacks
Shannon was already signed to Johnny wright from a previous tv talent show called fame. I guess they left that part out.She was already apart of the group.
Right here I knew Dominique wasn’t going to be in the band for sure (not that I ever thought she stood a chance) but she’s just not a dancer. She wasn’t meant to be part of a dancing female group. She said she rehearsed the routine for 3 months at home but even that wasn’t enough. She looked awful right here.
Melissa: weak vocals. No where near an 8 or 9.Shannon: vocals were flawed, but she at least showed emotions, humility, potential, and was a favorite.Jasmine: couldn’t harmonize after all that time.Kelli: dancing had potential I don’t think Jasmine wasn’t picked bc she couldn’t harmonize bc they worked hard with Aubrey and Shannon to improve their vocals once they were in the group. They could have done the same to help Jasmine sing in harmony, but they liked the other 5 girls better.
I wish Jasmine had been picked over D.Woods. I liked her for the same reason Diddy did, she brought mad urban appeal to the group. Too bad she couldn’t harmonize.
TJ Jones I feel like he loved Aubrey, Aundrea and Shannon... D-Woods is exceptional though. She always sounds great and is a great dancer! I think she used to be a dance instructor. Vaguely remember her sharing about this during her story about losing it all during a flood.
SupremeCourt247 she was on another show that Johnny was in charge of this reality show wasn’t really real Shannon did a interview saying Johnny said she just had to audition and she would make the group. Dawn also said diddy told her to audition for this and she would basically make it
shannon performance is why i always question how did she make the band..she sounded terrible..and poor jasmine you had the look sound and style, you just couldnt get your harmonies together., and kelly, she had the look and could sing thats why she got that far
Apparently shannon and dawn had a guaranteed spot in the band because they had to leave their previous contracts to sign this one. They wouldve never left their previous contracts (i think shannon had some dance contract with some state cheer team?) idk about dawn but yeah. Something along those lines.
Strong dancer. Shannon, Aubrey and Dawn were strongest dancers. If you listen closely you can also hear that even though Shannon was a weak singer, she was still a stronger singer that Melissa and Jasmine.
Im sorry, but i was dying laughing when old girl was trying to harmonize!!! He kept asking her did she get it, response "ok", mary had a little lamb, who's fleece was white as snow! Let do it together, mary had a little lamb," ooops sorry, can we do it again". Mary had a little lamb who's fleece was white as Snooooooow! The facial expression she gave at 3:08 to 3:09, was like "yeah i fucked that Allllllll the way up, #fatjoe #remyma, but shit you gone call me on the shit or not! LOL
Honestly in this little a capella performance she sounded decent. There's nothing special, no texture to her voice but she hit the notes okay. But whenever she was nervous or had to dance as well she couldn't pull through and that was part of the assignment.
Jay Hi5 anybody over D.Woods really 😂😂 she never vibed with the other girls. And only wanted to use this group to go other places. She never seemed to care or even try to ever bond with the other girls. I don’t think I ever saw D.Woods and Shannon ever speak
@@sirot5561you trippen... not by much tho.. Dawn was the one that was either an isle all to herself, laid up with que or that monsters Teacher's pet. I'm personally not a D. Woods fan but she was telling the truth when she said she had her own personal connection and relationship w/all the girls. It was Dawn that seemed to not try to bond with all of them.
Watching the last few episodes I get this: 1. There's no way Kelli or Dominique were going to be in the group. Diddy had this misogynistic vision of five sexy good dancers. Neither of the two of them fitted in. 2. Borderline racist, but Diddy stated that from the Wanita-Denosh-Taquita trio he will only pick one since they look too much alike. So after Wanita was in, Denosh and Taquita were instantly out. 3. He sent Shannon, Jasmine and Melissa into a final audition for the last spot. Jasmine and Melissa blew it, so it was Shannon's to take. Thus, the group was made...
I understand that for a woman it's natural to sing higher notes but there's nothing wrong with low notes, what many people don't get is that you don't have to try to imitate Mariah Carey to impress vocally, especially if you're not that good at it. Melissa was really flat, and even Shannon struggled on some notes. One thing is singing and another is screaming, there's very few people who can really scream and make it sound good.
@@JUANxxTNAFAN Dawn was the best singer of the group objectively. The most vocal creativity, best runs, adlibs, the most distinctive tone, and honestly their harmonies wouldn't have popped without her.
craig sanford she didn’t sing much in DK but she had the look they liked and could dance her ass off so diddy liked her and said she was very awesome to work with because she would listen to whatever they said and wouldn’t complain
Shannon actually can sing. The song she picked to sing wasn't the best for her voice, that and she was nervous. If you hear her in the next season she brings it! Also listen to her in the first episode of this season, she grabbed their attention with her voice and her dance came after
Love Shannon down, but of all the songs and singers in the world, you picked BEYONCE??? AND A BEYONCE BALLAD AT THAT?????? Girl, she set herself up to sound bad ... Lol
