It’s because the actor is Burmese and doesn’t speak Khmer and the actress although Khmer is mixed with French and isn’t fluent in Khmer. However yes some production still do the voice dubbing which I agree needs to stop! Like Sastra Film and Hang Meas do it for most of their films.

You can't find it in the US yet, or never cause even though this is the highest budget movie ever in Cambodia, getting it to the US is impossible. I wish it would get to the US so more people can see this movie.

They actually use their real voices for the other characters. The main actress doesn’t speak fluently Khmer as she grew up in France, she is learning though, reason why they dubbed her voice. She speaks like 50% Khmer according to her, but agree they should just let her read the script and use her original voice to dubbed it over, rather hear her broken khmer instead of using those voice dubbers.

​​​@@nataliev.149 I know, but Khmer directors should start casting actors/actresses who possessed all of the above, and not compromised or settled for less. There are TRUE talents out there, they just need an opportunity to showcased their talents. LD Pictures is not bad, but the other film production companies are continuing to do what has been done and accepted as the norms, for like the last thirty years - resort to dubbing. Lastly, they need to stop with casting just those actors/actresses that are part of the 'clicks', which perpetuates the practice of nepotism. Hopefully, things would changed for the better in the future. ✨

This is not about discrimination, it's about casting people who are qualified for the roles, through at least what is called "auditioning" process. Yeah, I'm very aware that the lead male character is "Burmese" and it's an exception, but the habit of the continual casting of actors who cannot delivered their dialogues, sounding like they're reading their scripts, and having to resort to dubbing all the time... are only done in Srok Khmer, nowhere else. What makes it even worse - is the fact that the dubbing is not even in synchronicity with the movements of the mouths, and the voices are super high pitched. Maybe in Srok Khmer... the audience have grown quite accustomed to watching films and TV series with people sounding like "cartoon" characters and a multitudes of cats in heat. Even most Khmer don't really watch or support their Khmer films and TV series, and would rather resort to watching foreign ones, because of the low quality. In the past, Cambodia was able to make good quality films during the "Samai Sangkhum Reas Niyum" era; don't see why it can't be done now, especially with the abundant of resources available. I want to see our Khmer film industry grow and attained the level of superiority on an international level, not just remained at the level of mediocrity. Growth cannot come about, if the root of the problem are not addressed and fixed.

@@Nharayanaaactually Vietnam and other countries in Asia still do the voice over dubbing. I do agree Cambodia needs to stop as it’s pretty outdated and shows a lack of modernization, Thailand stopped decades ago, although they did it to. Also the quality of Vietnamese, Filipino, Malaysian and Indonesian films aren’t great. I have Vietnamese friends and they complain all the time how bad the quality and acting is in Vietnam but they still go and watch it, however they have almost 100 million people and lots of subscribers to Netflix so their movies make it to Netflix. Cambodia has 17million and barely any Netflix subscribers so only way is to make khmer films international but that’s hard as Cambodia lacks a lot of creativity that it once had. The manpower with 17 million is there but creativity lacks. However, I still give them credit as it’s so much better nowadays than say 10 years ago, but they keep making horror films which shows the continued lack of creativity 😂. In the old days they made a lot of Boran and modern films and it was quite popular with the audiences. There were bad quality films and great ones back then, the good part was it was a new industry developing in many countries at the same time. Nowadays many countries have developed their entertainment industry beyond so it’s just harder to attract Khmer viewers due to so many options with foreign films. Most of these I countries rather watch Korean or Chinese dramas and films as those are high quality with unique storylines and very good acting. Cambodia just needs passionate film makers who love the craft of storytelling and making films and then casting of good actors, like they have singers. Also less in the short cut of copying other countries script and do your own stuff. Cambodia films were popular in Singapore too back in the days because it was very interesting and unique with live music, good actors, elaborate set and costumes. Plus they had a king who was leading the way for them in that space. They’ll get there again one day! ❤
