When we first started asking about Nellie and what people knew about her, what we heard was proof that the subject was worthy of a film. Our documentary research has uncovered stories, facts and records from within this community that have made our jaws drop, warmed our hearts, bewildered us, made us cry, and led us into a journey that we never expected when we began.

She was my great aunt, her sister my great grandmother We would go there for Summers but I was never allowed to go over to her house and I never understood why because she lived right next door to my Great Grandmother- until I got older and my mom told me. Tragic ending.

Did she have prominent white ancestors that helped protect her or was she just well loved for her generosity?

What a fascinating story, and I bet Ms. Nellie was a genuinely sweet woman...but I also bet, in her younger days anyway, if you crossed her, she'd put them hands on you....and she'd hurt you too, if the need were there....

LiberalsAreWorthless Why would you think she was physically violent? I didn’t get that at all, but I’m sure she would defend herself if need be.

I am honored to have been a part of this project. I met Nellie Jackson when I was a young teenage boy in Natchez, Ms and she treated me with respect, love, kindness and dignity. She mentored me & warned me of racism and hate arming me with knowledge she learned from going through HELL in Mississippi in the early 50's and 60's.

God Bless this woman, may she rest in peace if she has passed. What most people don't realize is many women such as her have HEARTS of GOLD, they will give you the shirt off their back and share their last piece of bread with you.
