Mr Chapman, thanks so much for creating this FS5 RAW tutorial. It was *exactly* what I needed to understand the ins & outs of connecting a RAW recorder, plus the setup. In fact, I've watched nearly all of your FS5 tutorials, and have found them to be indispensable. Please keep it up...there's way too much opinion on the inter-webs, and far too few people with actual/tangible/comprehensive knowledge. Thanks again. I'm sure I'm only one of thousands who feel the same way.
This is for sure the best RAW tutorial for this camera. Sony should be glad to have brilliant people like Alister Chapmann. All in all, the FS-5 is one of the smallest professional RAW cams on the market. Incl. variable ND and 240 frames in 2K (with ext. recorder). That`s amazing for 5400 €. Atomos also droped the price for the Shogun-:)
Hi Alister Just getting a bit confused here... If I just want 10bit Prores (so not RAW)... instead of internal 8 Bit from my FS5 Mk1, can I output that over HDMI or SDI to an external recorder such as the Ninja V or the BM Video Assist - without needing RAW upgrade... if that makes sense!
Hi John - did you get an answer to your question? I would like to use Prores (only) sometimes as it facilitates use of higher frame rates if needed. Also, I am unsure wether or not to ONLY use the base ISO (2400), no matter what, using variable ND to control exposure (reduction), and if more light is required then artificial light needs to be employed...or use higher ISO. I'm not entirely sure about the advice when it comes to introducing noise at say 6400. Also, with Premiere Pro 2022, although there is an import preset for RAW, there isn't one for ProRes alone. I'll try and send this to Alistair also.
@@jemmccluskey Hi Jem, as I understand it there are different base ISOs for different gamma curves… best way is to set it to 0db and that automatically sets the base ISO for you depending on what gamma curve you are using. I just shoot it in XAVC and transcode it to ProRes in Final Cut, it doesn’t take long, put the kettle on whilst you are waiting! I believe you can also convert to ProRes in Premiere now as well. And yes… just use shutter speed at double frame rate, this could also be set as shutter angle as well, select aperture you want and then you may need to dial in some variable ND… the best feature in this camera in my opinion, or add lighting, I always do this in any case in my field of work. Hope this helps…

I still don't understand why we should pay for a firmware update...
Technically Its already install into your camera if you have the ver 2+ firmware. You are paying $500USD to unlock that function. They are purposely crippling the camera for more money. With the Panasonic GH5 comming up with a 4K 10 bit Codec internally... I am afraid My FS5 will be obsolete soon. I really hope Sony will drop the price on this(to Free) .

Martin Noel I wish my love for Sony will be justified with the next a7 iii series if they want to compete with Panasonic...
Nice video Alister. Can you tell me if the FS5 changes it's raw sensor readout gamma mapping when you change the camera picture profile for SLOG-2 to SLOG-3? I have shot raw on an FS700 and that requires the SOG-2 gamma profile setting. On the FS5, if you switch between SLOG-3 and 3, do you see any change in the way the Odyssey converts the raw data and deBayers and processes it into video?
My brand new fs5ii sdi output randomly stopped working. This was a very expensive system. Any ideas on what could be wrong? I have spent weeks trying to figure this out.
Hello, I need your help. Maybe you know this. Where do you think I can find these discontinued SSD Handles for my boss? Maybe you know who would have them. The full name is: Convergent Design SSD Handle and Mounting Screw Pack for Odyssey7, 7Q, and 7Q+ (5-Pack)
Is there a way to film a Cinegamma in Pro Res 4k 60p with the FS5 / Shogun Inferno combination? I know that when recording Raw signal from the fs5 to the inferno you are required to use an S-Log 2 S Gamut picture profile in camera. My question is what if I have a scene where a cine gamma profile would be preferable such as dealing with lower light, but I'd still like the benefits of 10bit Pro Res 4k 60p. Would I be limited to filming the internal 4k 25p 8 bit long gop throught the sdi into the inferno without setting record mode in the fs5 to Raw and leaving it as XAVC UHD and at least getting the footage in Pro Res through the Inferno? What would I set the camera and shogun to make this scenario possible (if at all possible?) Any other work arounds for getting the 4k 60 Pro Res 422 from the Inferno but avoiding a Raw / Log work flow would be helpful. (some work I do doesn't allow the time for these methods in post.) Thanks for anyone's help on this.
Dear I'm from Iraq, I have a question why not belive in Alcamrh fs5 formula the option 4k huh what solution I completely did not understand the explanation p Sorry to prolong Please explain in brief comment Thank you
9:11 - When using the [RAW & XAVC HD] option, can the picture profiles be set for each? For example can we set the XAVC HD to Rec709 while the RAW as SLOG?
