I personally think the amazing thing here is not only did they do such a masterful job with the arrangement and everything, but they managed to keep the original waltz bounce in there without it feeling like a waltz. That's impressive.

Kirstin’s makeup is on point! So beautifully applied to look somewhat spooky and yet very pretty on her at the same time!

They have combined an upbeat and uplifting vocal with a decidedly macabre and dark background, thus once again freshening an old song. Surprised that you didn't notice or comment on the items falling from the sky all throughout the performance. You will benefit yourself to watch The Sound of Music, from which this song comes.

Hey didn't change the lyrics. In the movie, there was a storm at night and they all ended up in Julie Andrews (the nanny at the time) room. She / they sang the song of their favorite things to get their minds off the thunder. Christmas was mentioned before the song started. As far as Kirsty getting the lead, I believe heir last original song "be my eyes" was hers (lead) as well. I love her lead on that as well.

EDIT: I'm back after viewing your reaction and I'm so stoked that you liked it! You asked about the lyrics and people have already answered that so I won't repeat it but on the same vein, Something that we've noticed Pentatonix does is find songs that aren't Christmas songs yet the lyrics fit with Christmas and they put it on their Christmas albums. Fans have been talking about how they take a non-Christmas song, Put it on a Christmas album, and it becomes a Christmas song! I was able to watch the live viewing party after the video premiered and somebody asked a question about how they pick the songs for their Christmas albums and Scott said he has a list on his phone and every time he hears or thinks of a song that he thinks would fit for Christmas he adds it to that list. He said he has hundreds of songs on it now and they go over the list and pick songs that they like and give them a listen and see what they think they could do with it. They thought the way their arrangement sounded that it fit a steampunk theme and their designer, Candice, slayed it with the costumes and makeup!. They were really excited about the choreography because they said they learned it like three minutes before they had to record and they found it really fun and were excited to discover that they could learn it that fast and actually do it! When you watch The Sing-Off you'll realize they've come a long ways with their dancing and I'm as proud of them as they are of themselves! They used to always say "we're NOT good dancers!" But they've managed to learn new skills and I'm glad they did because we get theatrical pieces like this that are just so entertaining! I'm so glad you were able to react to this and post it! it's a Christmas miracle!

I thought they were channeling Nightmare Before Christmas but I read elsewhere that the director was going for a steam punk vibe. It works.

It's almost a spoof. Julie Andrew's sings to the Von Trapp kids to let them know how to be happy when scared. This is a great version of this song. Take away the creepy makeup and atmosphere and put in a sweet sugary scene and you'd have the Sing Julie Andrews did. The lyrics are the same. The scenery is different.

The solo album she did a couple of years ago is also really entertaining if you like her voice. I don't think they changed any lyrics. I used to sing this song in junior high choir. I can't remember all the lyrics, but most of them seem familiar.
