Offline Translation!? ILI Unboxing & Review! 

At last an honest comparison of a translator funny how this video didn't come up even though I have been searching for info on translation devices for over two weeks. Nice job on testing out the device.

Thanks for this great review! This really addresses my concerns about this product. I agree with you that this product falls short of being amazing but it seems to me that this technology might get better in the near future though.

I think from about 2:00 to 2:15 both translations for Japanese and Chinese is wrong. For Japanese, the voice says 日本人です(nihonjin desu, which means, without context, Japanese person, however the subtitle says 日本語です(nihongo desu, which means the Japanese language). 日本人です is not correct, and the machine was wrong. For Chinese, the voice says 中国人(zhōngguó rén, which means Chinese person). I think what you were trying to say was “This is the Chinese Language”, which should be 这是汉语, zhè shì Hànyǔ. Forgive me if I am wrong. English is not my native language.

The problem of this translator is the microphone, i think. It can't catch correct word but when It d'ora it translate well.

To everyone's credit that commented thus far, you're all correct that Brazil isn't a Spanish speaking country. Sorry to perpetuate that misinformation! But to my credit, half the plane was in Bolivia! LOL

The translator works. The context you are using doesn't exist in Spanish. My final form or medium rare are English expressions or descriptions. It's translating word for word. You are expecting it to also find the right context. Also the Mic for the device seems bad

Right off the bat, I noticed you have to be very careful with what to say in order to fully convey what you're trying to say in another language (and some things can't be helped when translating using a robot) because when he said, 'This is Japanese.' it translated to Japanese as 'This is a Japanese person.'

I'm french and I went to Japan 2 years ago. My english is "quite" okay (at least i think so... ^^) and even if I knew japanese people aren''t good in english, I thought everything would be alright anyway. Big mistake... I had so many issues to communicate with people out there, even with young adults. Even in touristic places or at touristic desks, they didn't know english at all or just a little bit with a terrific accent. Then I thought: next time I'll look for an offline translator since I could'nt use my phone last time. But I didn't expect translators to be so expensive. As a consequence I think next time I'll buy a prepaid sim card and use google translation. One question: another problem in Japan is that the majority of "writtings" are only in japanese. Is there an app where you can take a picture of a writting and have an instant translation of it?

i got it for like 9 dollars lol the one i got has the "5.1 update" which apparently works both ways not and has 50 languages, will see when it gets delivered "ALL Supported Languages are interchangeable. It's not as accurate because it only works with shorter and more simple sentences. I'm sure the company mentioned that somewhere. Some complex statements won't work, though a select few do

This device came out too late, smart-phones have beat it to the game, unless of course you're stuck some place with no internet connection. So after all, it has some limited uses.
