I'm not gonna lie this is exactly the stuff I love men hard at work Being men I wanted to burn pellet in my offset because pellets come in really good flavors. And mixes I do have those mats at home and I've used them in my barbecue to block all the holes when I used to use it for smoking Much appreciated this is fantastic & Great work Sincerely
I was wondering why no companies have designed a pellet fueled offset smoker. This is exactly what I had thought up in my head. Nice work! Looks like you’ve worked through all the hurdles. I love my offset, makes awesome food. But I don’t always have time for it. Pellet grills are okay, but they leave a lot to be desired in a lot of aspects. And the hot spots suck. Looks like this is the best of everything!
Thanks! Yeah, I felt the same way. Love the off-set, but needed consistent heat source. Pellet fueled assistance was the answer for me. Works great. I use it all the time.
As I watched this that old spoof on the Budweiser “Real men of genius commercials kicked in. Narrator: “This Buds for you mister manly man who fabricated a pellet assisted offset grill with a supercharger to properly smoke fatty meat and poultry.”
Very nice. Thinking about doing something similar with a vertical smoker I'm building. How about using the cooking grate in the fire box to sit wood splits on.
How has this held up? Has the heat from coals burned out the auger housing? I am thinking of doing the same but wondered if I should mount the burner under the firebox instead of inside. Any thoughts?
@@MrGreeklion It’s held up very well. Mounting under the fire box would be a good option, but seems that would be a flush mount and you would have issues keeping coals out of the pellet fire box. It’s an issue I have sometimes even though mine is raised a bit. But go for it man… anything is possible!
I scavenged the hopper, air box, auger, motor and control board from another pellet grill. I had to fab some brackets and supports. Pretty easy overall
@@Ozarkwild I guess the fab you are talking about is mounting system BUT...I am finding that every manufacturer has different length auger boxes. I notice yours is nicely in the middle. I just bought a used Traeger 34, 50.00 and a used Green Mountain grill, 40.00 both work when owners thought they didnt but Im finding that the auger lengths wont work without making a cradle to hold hopper assembly farther away from fire box. Not a big deal...But curious how yours fits perfect in the middle?
@@TyceFerwerda I just got lucky I found an older one that worked (worked out to be in the middle). Some older Traeger models had longer auger boxes b/c they were front mounted hoppers, such as the donor I used. But I shorter box should work, you may just have to mount it at the end of the firebox on the off-set. The newer pellet stoves are more compact, so you are correct, it will be a little more challenging. But anything is doable :)
