She has an amazing voice that you listen to once you become addicted to it. I believe that those who listen to the songs, they have souls, sensitive, special ... OFRA we miss you. I will always regret that I was not at a concert of hers.

She was an Yemeni Arab, who happened to believe in the Jewish faith & moved with her family to Israel.. she might be Israeli but she was Yemeni & Arab too, its all in her face, voice & music.. love her !
Not true. First of all, she was born in Israel and not in Yemen. Her parents immigrated to Israel from Yemen before she was born. They lived in the city of Lahj Governorate in Yemen, and were one of the only Jewish families in the city. The Jews in Yemen jealously preserved their traditions and customs for thousands of years and did not mix with the Arabs. After the establishment of the State of Israel, most Yemenite Jews immigrated to Israel as part of IDF and Mossad operations.

I don't understand a single word, but I definitely feel something, music (good music) transcends everything -- primarily my linguistic capabilities! Ofra was and still is one of the most amazing singers of the current era. She was also very beautiful (just had to add that!)

@IdealThinker Why but? Israelis loved her. The Arabs in the M.E. loved her. A lot of the world loved her. I am Ashkenazi, and I have loved her for many years. When I hear her sing I greatly miss her. Her family was from Teman, and traditional. They're culture is very different from mine, but her art or our belief system tear down the barriers between us. That is how the Creator will make peace between all of his children...without the sword, without force. It should happen soon in our days.

Mirand1ish, this is not a simple question. This particular melody is traditional song and its author is unknown. Most of her songs were composed by Bezalel Aloni (also her manger),by Ofra herself (or by both of them). Lot of israeli songwriters wrote for her too. (eg. Ehud Manor, Moshe Vilenski. Naomi Shemer and many many others). Ofra also sang folk songs and yemenite songs from Diwan.
FYI: Jews in the Arab/Muslim World, like African-Americans, were disproportionately engaged in the performing arts. One study, from 1903 in the city of Shiraz, Iran. found that of 1,025 Jewish men, 60 (almost 6%!) listed their profession as "musician." The problem with most of the "western" world, mainly akhenazis, is that they don't want to aknowledge the fact that the original middle-eastern jews are not too different from Arabs and have been mixed for ages. Ie; you can be an arab and a jew just like you have jews which are muslims.

Her family roots are from Yemen, not Israel. The culture she nourished is Yemeni. The clothes she wore, the way she sang and even the some of the songs she are distinctly Yemeni, not Israeli, even if jewish. In other words a jewish culture (naturally intensly mixed with arab culture) only found in Yemen.
