OG Detail! NHT Super Zero Speaker (1996) - A Look Back! 

I had many pairs of NHTs from that era - 1.3's, II's, 2.3's, 2.5i, 1.5, vs2.4 centre - all good stuff. I relatively recently had a pair of these vintage SuperZeros, and I must say: with a subwoofer, these SZ's make a very capable system for sure.

My uncle is the one who started this company & I remember very well the family discussion we had on what he should name his speaker company & my grandma was the winner with her suggestion of “Now Hear This” aka NHT.

Now Hear This !! I recommended this speaker to several friends, along with their small subwoofer. Another quite decent small speaker from about a decade earlier than the Super Zero, are Celestion 3.

I remember reading Corey Greenburg article in Stereophile about the SuperZeros back in the 90’s. My first 5.1 system in 1996… five SuperZeros and an NHT SW3P sub. Family and friends could not believe how awesome my NHT system sounded. To this date I use the SuperZeros as my surround speakers. I’ve replaced my FCRs for Klipsch RP-8000F with a RP-600C for center back in 2020, but still prefer the SuperZeros as surround. They are powerful, can piss off the neighbors and really sound magical. And yes, the sub on my current 5.1.4 setup, my wonderful and extremely musical NHT SW3P, which still delivers a punch on movies but serenades me when listening to music. The Superzero is in it's 2.1 iteration and it's the BEST speaker i have owned, period.

Awesome! I love my old speakers. My mains are a pair of Cerwin-Vega RE30's I bought back in 1996 and my rears are a pair of DCM CX-17 bookshelves that I bought back then a year or so later. I sold the DCMs to a friend and then bought them back a few years later like 2000ish and have used them ever since. Those fluid filled tweets are pretty smooth. Had to replace one of the tweets after buying them back but otherwise have been flawless.

I picked up a 1995 pair last week along with an NHT SW1p sub and SA1 sub-amp (1995 as well and my serial numbers are also one off each other), a pair of Target Audio speaker stands and a Yamaha RX-V559 receiver - all for $196. The NHT gear works well and yes, the quality of the SuperZero's is as amazing as you describe. As for the Yamaha, it was DOA but now working after replacing an 80c capacitor on the power input board.

These speakers are awesome! Had a black pair that I gifted to a friend, who STILL has them and are still rocking! Great review! Earned a sub!

I got a pair of NHT tower 1.8 whit a Rotel tribute they are awsome much better than my old Nad

I have a pair exactly like yours the only difference being mine were made in December 1994. They blew me away and I'd been listening to many different compact speakers in my bedroom setup before I landed on these. The natural oak finish is very hard to find so if you paint them I'll shoot you!! I have the oak veneer set also and they are difficult to find. I usually find anything I want on eBay in a few weeks time but the hand rubbed oak finish ones are scarce and it took me several months to find a pair. I haven't seen another pair since either. Anyway, they beat out several highly regarded bookshelf speakers for the spot in my bedroom. I'm using them with a Miller & Kreisel powered sub and they make music beautiful in my bedroom. Try them in your theater room with just a hair of toe in and you'll be in awe.

I bought them on 1996 and I still have them, I want to fix the woofer.
