The demos pre Somatic Defilement are incredibly heavy, and also just The Somatic Defilement too as an album. Hands down best deathcore record of the 00's (for me). Not to say this isn't heavy, I like this song. I hope the rest has more deathmetal influence like the old albums. But yeah, it's great. Phil has always been the best, it's weird to me modern deathcore fans don't know old deathcore. It's actually infinitely better

after seeing whitechapel on the alex garza podcast discussing how lorna brought the heavier sound back into popularity through tiktok they were considering going back to the heavier sound, they went into how a few years back DC fell off but they seen it rising again in popularity and even considered going back to that sound. Love that they decided to jump back in.

The reason for this song being eerie and dark is because of Zach Householder. He's the horror buff in the band, and when they began demoing this track, Zach showed them some ideas for the song and they went 'Yup. This is the vibe we're going with". It really shows!

Zach also produced and engineered the whole record. I remember shortly after Kin came out, someone asked Zach on an Instagram Q&A if the music WhiteChapel was releasing was a reflection of a new direction the guys wanted to take the band in or if it was more of a “let’s try it and get it out of our system” kinda deal. He said that while they’re really proud of The Valley and Kin it definitely felt like a departure that they need to make but didn’t necessarily sign up for, they’re just glad the risk still paid the bills. Seems like the new record is the boys going back to what they’ve always wanted to be doing.

Whitechapel proving why they are one of the original GOATS of Deathcore. Zero over produced fake orchestral moments, no fake synth, no overly polished vocals that are unrealistic to pull off live etc... It's just all real, brutally heavy deathcore!! (that they will be able to pull off live without relying on a macbook. You know who im meaning!!) ALOT of newer deathcore band (2018-2024) need to take a note! THIS is deathcore!!

MySpace Deathcore revival is what the scene needed (if you ask me) bands like Lorna Shore, who are incredible and I love them, popularized a style that has become over saturated and sort of boring, I don’t always need my Deathcore to be super technical.

On principle alone, this song is the greatest of 2024, and Whitechapel have just solidified their king status in deathcore. The ONLY band in recent memory that has told us "We're going back to our roots and it's just gonna be pure brutality" and MEANT IT. On PRINCIPLE ALONE, this is just spectacular.

HIs vocals have aged like fine wine imo! They sound better to me than ever before. They're 1 of VERY few bands and artists throughout history to change up their style and kill it, and then return to their origins and sound as good if not better than before. Ex: Slipknot wasn't able to return to what they used to be imo.

Phil is obviously one of the best to ever do it and made this song sound nasty as fuck, but what makes Whitechapel heavier than almost any band in this genre is that the band knows how to write interesting music that doesn't sound derivative which is the biggest pitfall of deathcore. They sound like they mean it.

Kendrick beef, so I have a question to ask. Why don't you expand your content to multiple genres?
