It's interesting because those jumps you're seeing Pete Townsend do became a staple later on of live punk performances. He was also known for what came to be called the Windmill, which is the way that he would strike the guitar sometimes and his arm would do a whole sweep around a circle and then hit it again with a flourish. A lot of history right here.

Great song! Really like their early stuff from the 60's-70's. They are considered one of the most influential rock bands of the 20th century & have sold over 100 million records worldwide. They have so many great songs such as "I Can't Explain", "The Kids Are Alright", "My Generation", "Magic Bus", "Substitute", "I Can See For Miles", "Behind Blue Eyes", "Boris The Spider", "Pictures Of Lily", "Pinball Wizard" etc.

There is another performance of the show on video and I can't remember which one it is but it's one of their classics and at the end the front man Rodger Daltrey is just spinning that mic around from several feet down the cable from the mic itself and throwing it up in the air and it's borderline dangerous. And then in the end, Pete Townshend throws up one of Keith Moon's cymbals into the air, which is really dangerous and then when it comes down it's almost going to hit Rodger Daltrey but it's like he knows and he starts sidestepping it, and then you see Pete jump over there at the last second and kind of deflect it out of the way. He then proceeds to destroy his guitar.

What a joy to see your first reaction to live Who, sweet Blessing. ❤ The front man is Roger Daltrey, and the lead guitarist and songwriter is Pete Townsend. They have been around since the 1960s, and Pete and Roger are still leading the band live to this day. I've had the good fortune to see them five or six times, and every performance was epic. A great song from the same concert is "Won't Get Fooled Again." It's such a kick to watch your discovery journey, my divine friend. 🥰

And also bassist John Entwistle, a.k.a. The Ox, an island of stability in a sea of chaos [I like chaos.] and Keith Moon, a.k.a. Moon the Loon, a certifiable mad man and crazed drummer. Both have gone on to "The Great Gig in the Sky." I would normally say rest in peace, but I think a more appropriate epitaph is ROCK ON!

Thanks for your reaction--the names : vocalist=Roger Daltrey (also actor), jumping guitarist=Pete Townshend, bassist=John Entwistle, drummer=Keith Moon (died in 1978--so the Who disbanded instead of replacing him). And yes, very energetic--Pete Townshend once said that if they didn't have fin in their shows, might be better to quit and work in a factory. He was right--and they had a lot of fun. Have a nice day. For an epic performance from them, see My generation, live Monterey 1967. They won a bet against Jimi Hendrix about who would destroy their guitar first, but Hendrix stole the show even if he did it last (for Hendrix, see Wild thing from the same Monterey show. Good to see both performances, to compare them and decide on who truly won the bet. Have a nice day & I'll watch what else you did on your channel.

They came out during the British Invasion of music in the mid 1960’s. This performance is from the late 70’s. The “ Who” were made up of John Entwistle bassist , one of the best in contemporary music Keith Moon drums , inventive, talented and crazy Roger Daltrey lead vocals speak for themselves and Pete Townshend guitar

If I can make a recommendation, look for the video for "House Of The Rising Sun" by The Animals. When you see the video, yes, the singer is amazing, but the thing you have to know.. that song was done in ONE TAKE! Walked into the studio, played it once, and walked out with perfection. No dubbing, no remix, no digital sound enhancement.

They were incredible! Same concert, watch their masterpiece: Won't Get Fooled Again (in which Roger Daltrey gives maybe the best scream in R&R history.. And if you really want to hear what Roger can do, listen to the studio version of Love, Reign O'er Me. Meanwhile, Pete Townshend (guitarist) was the heart and soul of the band: wrote all the songs, as well.

I love the Who but...Even Daltry tells the story about when he'd had enough of Keith " Either he goes or I do, "said Roger. "There's the door" replied Townsend. Daltry was mostly competent in a band the had high standards, you like what you like.

For an incredible study of the genre called "Rock Opera," you might enjoy working your way through their opera titled, "Tommy." It's correctly structured opera featuring a mind bending instrumental Overture, a storyline delivered via arias, and another instrumental "Underture." This was a landmark release in 1969, and the composition and execution is timeless! Thank you for another enjoyable reaction. 👌🌹😇

I enjoyed this a lot. Both the song and your reaction. However I wish you got hold of the longer version of this song because you're only seeing a small part of this performance. It actually gets wilder toward the end in the longer version. Anyway I'm glad that you reacted to a live version of The Who performing. I've been listening to their recordings since they came to the US shortly after The Beatles. They are known for their great songs, and wild live performances. One of their many albums was a rock opera called Tommy. It was made into a very entertaining movie that I watched several times. Tina Turner and Elton John were some of the characters. Baba O' Reily was used as a theme song in a well known television series called CSI New York. The Who are not just another good rock band. They are considered one of the greatest rock bands that came out of Great Britain. Anyway great reaction. I always get some interesting observations and some laughs watching your reactions.

They didn't bet with Hendrix over who could destroy their gear first; Pete Townshend and Jimi Hendrix tossed a coin at the Monterey festival in 1967 because neither one wanted to follow the other on-stage. Pete won. John Entwistle also passed away, in 2002.
