This whole album is a story, just so all of you know; I've seen a lot of confused comments. The entire album is a story of a father and his shallow faith and his atheist daughter who know learned that there is a "god" and wants to learn more about it. Do not take what the song says out of context or you might get the wrong message from the song
"It's ironic that you're contemplating murder while I'm educating you in mercy!" is one of the most well-written lines I've EVER heard in poetry. This whole album's concept is downright brilliant, masterfully-written storytelling with such a solid artistic flair. But hey, that's just Oh Sleeper in a nutshell. This album has the best overall execution of the album concept but all of their stuff is so well-written.
@@PastorCAWard Just to add to this years later as I literally just read an article on it, the man who did it was bombed 4 years from the release of ‘Hush Yael’. Cosmic Justice?
Mad respect for incredible musicians like these guys, they may have not become stupid rich and famous, but they cared enough about their music to work on it and share it with us. Thank you guys..!
This song is so amazing, not everyone we are supposed to trust is who they say they are, and we can be fooled. Even though we commit sins or refuse him, God shows us mercy. He keeps fighting for us, even when we refuse to to listen. That is what I got from it at least.
Great song but I do disagree with the message that God is somehow providing any shred of proof or any means to believe. She had every right to kill him because, in her eyes, she knew it was wrong but was given no choice, by him or the God that is now dead and gone. Had to be done.
This album is the 1st thing that I go to when I need a reminder that we all have doubts in our beliefs. It is what helped me find God, and I comeback to it for that reason.
I never like metalcore but this is WOW! And happened in this time when I’m struggling with my life. Feel like stabbing someone into the heart but this song... I wasn’t created to punish. I was created to love and forgive. 😔
After looking into the concept of this album and studying it, this song always brings a tear to my eye. It's so emotional and truly shows God's love in a brilliant way. Absolutely incredible. Can't wait for their new album at the end of the year
I am by no means a christian. I don't have any faith in any bible written by man and I have no mind for gods that men speak of. even though I feel this way I can honestly say that this song " the family ruin " is one of my most favorite songs. the lyrics are powerful and so brilliantly sang. I love this band and even though I don't and never will share the same faith as them there songs touch me deeply
The family ruin is part if the album's concept story. It takes place after the rapture. Justin is correct Yael is based on a sad but true event and I believe that dealers of fame is also based on true events
Love this song. It's my ringtone. That piano is haunting. Oh, Sleep will always be one of my favorite metalcore bands. Found a mistake though. 1:11, "cited" not "sited".
LOVE this song. The opening keyboards reminded me of Falling Up's "Lights of Reedsport". Only this one is more haunting and tears into your soul with the lyrics.
The vocals to this piece smacked my sideways with a wooden bat, then when i read the meaning of lyrics this piece smacked again. The emotion and the call in the song is amazing. It's so hard to imagine showing mercy to a monster, but we given a greater mercy than we will know in this life. This piece is an absolute masterpiece of musical skill as well poetic significance. Wow!
This is truly beautiful, how meaningful the song can be and the song structure fit to each other perfectly. It captures what this song is about, especially the keyboard parts.
He didn't lose faith because his daughter was raped. He lost faith because in the song "Endseekers" after the battle with the devil he saw God leave everyone behind. He couldn't cope with the abandonment and lost his faith, Since God was no longer around he decided to "take the robe of a judge" and pass judgement just as God did.
the lyrics in this are so powerfull in some parts of their songs it feels like he's talking to me about past situations and stuff im going through now and makes me feel better and know how to deal with crap. thanks oh,sleeper :) you have no idea how much you've helped me through life
I have this on repeat, its a few minuets before school and this is the 8th time I have listened this morning. It is absolutely amazing they sing about the justice god has and its spectacular.
Thank you! I just now discovered this album in its entirety. I listened to one or two songs out of context and they seemed odd. I appreciate it very much. Thank you for the reply. God Bless! -Bethany
Wow, I've always known about Oh, Sleeper but this is amazing. This album if you can think about it's meaning is very powerful, I'm a big fan of them now.
I love how he says, "It's not worth it, you didn't have to fall, it's your fault. But I won't let you slip away" (Skipped a few lines, I know), but it just re-enforces the thought that although we don't always listen to God, he is STILL merciful. Even though we sin, he won't let us slip away.
Honestly I've heard of this band a while ago and I regret not checking them out so much because their music instantly gave me chills and I'm definitely a fan.
As the angel of earth, help me stay grounded in God's wisdom so I can stand on a solid spiritual foundation as I learn and grow every day. Encourage me to keep an open mind and heart as I progress toward becoming the Person
I walked with God very closely for 7yr.Last 2yr. I was far away.I came back 3mo.ago.2mo. ago there was a demon sent to get me to murder my self. Its name was IRONIC.It would torment me all day long for weeks.I finally got rid of it through the power of JESUS.And the rest of this song just answered my prayer today.Thank you LORD.
The keyboard through this song reminds me of the score to the movie Phantasm. I keep thinking that silver ball is going to fly at me and drill into my brain. Between this album, Machine Head and Mastodon that was an awesome day for new music.
Totally love this song!!! I btw. "cause you're about to choose what you called so ironic" also refers to "the means to believe" referring to her father "standing for his god but becoming something so far off"
screamo is the general term used for the new subgenre of rock that includes screams. it can also be used to describe cover songs, as that is the main focus of the remake. most importantly it is an original subgenre that is fused with hardcore punk.
