I remember when this aired. People were floored. They did not know what to make of her. I loved every second of it.

Gaga has said about this performance, "If I'm gonna be sexy on the VMAs and sing about the paparazzi, I'm gonna do it while I'm bleeding to death and reminding you of what fame did to Marylin Monroe, Anna Nicole Smith, Heath Ledger and what it did to... yeah, do you know who?" (The 'do you know who' bit was about Amy Winehouse)

Lady Gaga called this her first true “original” piece of art, and she presents to us a story of Diana. A princess whose Fame was so great it literally took her life, but Gaga twists the story slightly, and becomes a willing Christ-like sacrifice. 😢 Queen 👑

She gave the media what they wanted. The death and decay of the pop star in front of their eyes. So amazing to watch her call the media and society out on national television

The symbolism is off the charts in this performance.

This song and performance is how fame can kill an artist. People who were at the performance have said it was so impactful that they felt an energy switch in the room. She really changed pop music that night and it’s still my favorite performance of hers. I’m a huge fan of symbolism in music and art and I think that’s why I connected with her as an artist so much over the years because that’s her niche. If you look it up, there’s actually a video from the audience POV and the gasps and cheers were deafening and MTV actually edited some of it out.

I remember when she did this performance it came out that when the fake blood happened people in the audience said that people in the audience thought someone shot her and if you listen carefully you can hear a gasps from audience.

Gaga usually always harmonizes/changes the melody of Paparazzi when she performs it live. I’ve very rarely seen her perform the “studio version” live.

The "mask" the back up dancer was wearing is indeed a g-string. Her fashion team said so. 🤣

Saw her live in L.A. in 2014 for the Art Pop Ball concert. One of the best concerts I've been to. It was like a Broadway show. Amazing.

I remember sitting on the couch with my family and watching this and we all had our jaws on the floor. We were mesmerized. She was just so unique for the time. We were all legit fans from that moment on.

The way GaGA stunned people, but she had a POINT to prove and she definitely proved it. Paparazzi became a hit because it was “catchy” but she wanted to show how ruthless and awful the paparazzi culture was and how far celebs were willing to go to get good headlines from them. That’s why you see in any state she’s in she’s smiling “for the camera”.

I think it was this presentation that changed everything for Lady Gaga. If I'm not mistaken, at this VMA she was nominated for New Artist. She knew how to make the most of the opportunity and brought a historic performance, different from anything they were doing in the music industry.

This live performance is where I went from -oh lady gaga is pretty cool to -I'm fully obsessed...She changed the concept of live music to a higher degree. You should react to her Super Bowl performance!

Lady Gaga is unique because with her you get more than just an awesome voice, she's dancing and singing at the same time (without ever doing playback) and she's also giving you visuals and outfits and also theatrics in her performances. She's so talented that I don't think I can do her enough justice (like she has other talents like being a great pianist, she can conduct an orchestra and play the guitar etc).

In the music video her character was pushed off a several storied house and was either injured or paralyzed hence theuse of the wheelchair. The fake blood was probably stored in her costume in a pouch and popped open at the right moment.

The quick silence was because she said the word ‘shit.’ Which apparently was too much for American viewers. Heaven forbid someone sings the word shit. The same country that showed people leaping to their deaths on live tv on 9/11. America has weird viewership standards to say the least 😂 In contrast, she sang this song live, ‘shit’ included at 0745 on Lorraine on itv1 here in the UK!

Tear up whenever I watch it. It was a scathing critique on what the industry did to Britney Spears, she was in a hospital and in serious health troubles and the paparazzi kept mocking and dragging her into the public eye.

Oh no, this performance is a joke

If you didn’t catch the first few lines, she said “Amidst all of these flashing lights, I pray the fame won’t take my life.” which is why she basically started “bleeding out” on stage because fame has killed celebrities before and paparazzi don’t care as long as they get a good picture of a person’s downfall. She said “If I’m gonna be sexy on the VMAs and sing about the paparazzi, I’m gonna do it while I’m bleeding to death and reminding you of what fame did to Marilyn Monroe. And what it did to Anna Nicole Smith.”

Well nothing new under the sun ,Ozzy Osbourne used to bitte of birds heads so he got blood stains all over his face 🙄
