I made this last night! Not from a packet, but from the raw ingredients! The only difference was, I was using up the last of a piece of corned silverside (New Zealand's home-cook version of corned beef, that you boil for about 3 hours, in a mix of water, to which you add half a cup of malt vinegar and a tablespoon or two of golden syrup). It was delicious and there's enough for at least 3 more portions. I served mine with some broccoli, just for the added colour! I forgot to add the mustard, but it still tastes amazing. When I serve the freshly cooked corned beef it has a mustard sauce with it - the flavours are perfectly paired. If you ever get over here, do see whether you can find somewhere serving proper corned beef - when my brother visited from the UK he enjoyed it so much that we had to have it every 3rd day for the duration of his stay! (I was corned out by the end of a month!)
being that it's M&S you can guarantee the corned beef is british they would want full meat tracing, I worked for a company that made food for them they are very stringent in the quality of ingredients it's what you pay the extra for
Bear in mind that this corned beef hash is made by 2 Sisters, who in 2018 were found guilty of multiple offences concerning food hygiene and traceability.
@@steveaustin4118 Google "2 sisters food scandal". They were exposed by ITV and The Guardian in 2017 using undercover filming, and fined £1.4 million in 2018.
M&S are never cheap unless you are very lucky to find them marked down but the quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten. Enjoy this one Gareth, nice and easy to eat.
£3.50 so less than 50p than most other similar ready meals at ASDA, TESCO and so on. A tin of Corned Beef is pricy now which would be needed to make your own and if you live on your own you don't need a full tin to make a hash so this meal makes sense.
It’s funny you picked this, because I bought some cans of Libby’s corned beef hash and recently cooked it - and the preparation of this makes all the difference! If you can get it really crispy, it’s delicious and has a wonderful texture. Tricky cooking it but delicious when cooked crispy. And a red hot sauce, like a cayenne pepper sauce, can be useful. Cheers!

My daughter had cornbeef pie and gravy . Pie and peas and dripping sandwiches at her wedding breakfast . She wanted the money we saved towards her house
When has M&S ever disappointed I see why it’s £3.50 it’s cuz every bit of that ready meal is M&S you can when at home use different brands But glad you enjoyed it Gaz Cheers ☕️
Good to see you x You seem a lot like your old self now, must have been a bad few weeks for you, but you have pulled through x Bet this would make a nice pie filling or into pasties.
When I was younger we used to have corned beef mash. Not exactly sure of how it was made but was basically mash potato with corned beef mashed into it. I think it was maybe baked in the oven to finish and made for a very tasty meal.
For three and a half quid, it's still cheaper than a sandwich and a bag of crisps for lunch, and probably better for you. I think it's one of those things you bung your own extras on to taste; a handful of peas and carrots, bit more cheese and squirt of tomketch or HP. 😋😋
Good review as usual Gareth. Funny enough I popped into Markies the other day for a few things and had one of those yesterday for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed it
Nice to see you mention brown sauce with it my better half thinks I'm werid having brown sauce with it thanks mate keep up with how your going mate one day at a time day mate
I used to love a good Hash-up. Especially when on exercise. Easy to make, even on a hexi burner. I haven't had for quite a while now. The last one I had was from the Co-Op and it was really foul. Another great review 👍👍.
Oww yeh gota luv a corned beef hash😋Gaz just want to say a huge congratulations on reaching over 100k followers on the cards i think & well deserved for producing a great channel with great content the best on RU-vid by far in my opinion just SPOT on thanks Gaz keep up the good work👍
Looks good enough for the price. After all corned beef these days cost more than £2-00 a tin. And I hope that you finished it off with a bit of bread and butter?.
It's like watching a baby progress to solids! You've skipped those pouches of baby food - I've always wondered if they're any good but never had a good excuse. Go on - you know you want to!
"Sporadic Cheese" is a new one for me Gaz! My favourite is; "Cheddar"! I would add some Garden Peas to it, as well! Looks good for a Supper treat before Bed!.... 😊....😊....! Gaz..a Tip...when demonstrating a; "small meal," use a; "small plate". it's a question of; "size"!...😊....😊....!
Pushing the boat out with M & S. Glad to see you're on the mend. You could try sucking their macaroni cheese as well as other pasta dishes 😀 The corned beef reminded me of an ex's legs. i.e corned beef legs.
I’ve tried that , it was ok but not much flavour . I think you need at least a couple of fried eggs on top . M&S used to email me after every shopping trip , I shop there three times a fortnight , but they don’t bother anymore because I accused them of keeping putting up prices because the media keeps telling everyone we’re in a cost of living crisis . Some biscuits I buy are £2.25 in M&S and £1.65 in Tesco !!!!!!!!!!
Wow. Corned beef hash is a favourite. I use this on garlic naan or pita bread with other ings to make my own "pizza" and it's fantastic. You can put your own cheese base. Tomatoes. Pepperoni. Mushrooms. Spring onions. Olives. Whatever takes your fancy. And grill it...
Off topic: Just bin watching James Martin, prepping a lobster! All I could see was you an' an hommer! 🙂(yes an hommer,I'm just down road from Cosford, remember) Brought a broad smile to my ugly mug! 😅More power to ya Gaz 🤘🙏
dont apologise for the Shadows you'll upset Cliff ! dont work for them but M&S usually worth the extra whats the point of saving 50/60p if it tastes awlful have tried this one very tasty give it a go if you got the dosh
You're looking good mate! I can't wait for the next one. Keep up the good fight. Try their Italian range, e.g. beef cannolloni, chicken arrabiatta. They are 3 for £9 so I'd love to hear a review.
You would lose the "crispy bits" if you put cheese on before the oven. I would put grated cheese on at the end then back in for 2/3 mins just to melt it.
I’m a nurse and I’ve had many ready or microwave meals from the M&S in our hospital, they do some good meals, and after a 12.5 hour shift I just cant be bothered to cook, also because we nurses finish at 19:30 they close at 20:00, very often the food is discounted to half price or below, absolute bargain. ❤
I love these corned beef hash from M&S. The only problem is they're rare in my local shop as they are a favourite of the local gang of grannies and you have to fight for them.
My dad used to make corned beef hash, for the family. Big pan (ten in the family) fill with sliced potatoes, carrots, onions and two tins of Fray Bentos corned beef, cook till potatoes are cooked, I personally put a couple of beef oxo’s in. Get a plate, put a slice of thick white bread on the bottom (Warburtons toastie bread in green pack) cover with hash, squirt brown sauce on, sadly I’m getting my body ready for the summer, so I will have to wait for the colder weather again. M&S food is the best, my go to shop. I don’t buy many pre-made foods, but the there, The Best Steak Pie, is one of my husbands favourites. You’re starting to get your spark back. One day at a time mate.
I like the fact you take the trouble to reply! You are so polite. Wishing you and family well ❤ You've found your inner grit! Stay well and persevere. Family is all.
That looked very tasty indeed Gareth. Whilst watching the crispy topping sizzling through the oven door, I've had to go & get one for my tea. I'm looking forward to it. All the best Gareth 👍 Thank you 😊
You can just cobble up your own version in a casserole dish - 1 large onion (sliced), tin of spuds, tin of carrots, small tin of processed peas, tin of corned beef, add a teaspoon of mustard & whatever seasoning you like - I use a bit of black pepper & mixed herbs. Great video once again.
