I think they read the quote " Take care of the young untill there old." But they took the quote too litterly that they forgot about there older kids. (This is not canon this is kind of just a made up backstory)

Story: since her mom pushed her in ocean, he never forgot bout his sister that was pushed in ocean, she found the dress and wore then said “ohh you guys really did forgot me” then her mom said “s-sweetie we didn’t forget you” then her father said “yeah honey, why would we forget you?” Then she replied “every time when the person is born, you start to forget some of us and I heard bout the person being drown by the mother and her family left her expect for the boy.” Then her mother starts to lie and looked at her and said “whoever did that probably did that by a accident!” And starts to sweat then later the night her brother was in shocked and wonder so he whispered to his self and said “how did she know that..?” And couldn’t stop help thinking bout that, meanwhile her sister was hungry so she woke up and sneaked to get a food and when she was caught by her brother she ignored him before he could say anything and when she turned around, she said “I hope when you guys get new brother or sister I hope they will realize that your gonna forget them like you did to me.” And her tears begin to come out and she slammed her door while her brother is in front of her door sorry saying “I so sorry for what I did” in his mind then begin to cry. Few weeks ago She became all grown-up and when she came out her parents was going to give her a hug but she replied with “I sorry I will be late to school” and starts to walk off and her brother walks with her and asked her “how did you know that?” She looked at him and said “it was spread out, on the news.” He begin to remember that past and said “that was your sister but your mom pushed her since she didn’t love her enough.” She was in shocked but decided not to show it so she said “whatever I going to be late to class so you will be too.” And begin to walk off even more fast then usual, he starts to feel bad bout the past when they all forgot her so he wrote the note when he saw her he starts to walk off to somewhere and when she saw the note she picked it up and read it “dear sis, I know your sill mad at us but we’re all sorry and we wanted to say that and we hope you forgive us” she ripped it off and texted him a letter “I read the note, I forgive you all but why I should forgive you all that easily even that past was long time ago?” He texted her back “your right, I glad you forgive us long time ago and can we get along as a family now?” She said yes, who might knows what happened after that.
