“Dancers need to be convinced that less is better” truly profound and powerful words. But as a lifelong professional dancer myself I have to say, who implanted in me the notion that this isn’t true? My reality has always been that I cannot make a living in the US unless I’m producing extreme/more with my body.
If I could do my career all over again, I would have made Aaliyah with my now ex husband (he’s Israeli) in 1991 instead of coming to NYC. Ohad’s Batsheva became my favorite company, but honestly so many Israeli choreographers have stolen my heart (Yasmeen Godder comes to mind, and aeons ago we used to take Zvi Gotheiner’s class in NYC. I could just sob thinking about this). If only I could do my life again. But I can’t. Thank you, Ohad, for speaking truth. Today rba.
