Thanks to trail rider Nathan Ruffing for this video!
This is is a time lapse from the Ohio to Erie Trail, biking from Cincinnati to Columbus, Ohio. The video clips are played at 5x speed. The narration is at 2 seconds per mile. It shows that Ohio has the best dedicated bike trails in the country.
Note: The trail does not include the Olentangy Trail shown at the very end of this video.

This is amazing. I live in Cincinnati I never realized that we could trail ride all the way to Columbus I can’t wait to try this.

I finally made this bike ride after wanting to do it for years. I started off at the parking garage at Newport on the Levee in northern Kentucky, went across the Purple People Bridge and finished at a Red Roof Inn on West Broad Street inside the city limits of Columbus Ohio. I had several challenges on the way up there, the first one was the weight of my day pack. I was able to secure it on the top of bike storage bag that was design to fit over the top of my luggage rack. The second challenge was getting around the closed part of the bike trail by the Cartridge Brewing Company. I was able to cut through their parking lot and through the construction area (no construction workers on a Sunday). Had to go around to the side of the blockade fence on the other side of the bike trail. A tree had fallen across the bike trail further on up. I lucked out in a way, Because it was a Sunday, I was able to avoid another detour starting in Yellow Springs. The bottom line I was not prepared and learned a few things if I should try again someday.

Thanks for this comment -- I'm headed in the opposite direction tomorrow, and feeling very fortunate it's also a Sunday, lol.

Thanks so much for posting this video. I really like have you have narrated and captured video from just about each mile along the way. I would love to see many more bike trail videos done this way. Bravo!

I live in Cincinnati in Oakley about five miles west of where I get on the trail in Newtown. Last week I rode from my home in Oakley all the way to West Broad Street in Columbus in a single day. It was 111 miles and with several stops it took me about 10 hours.

In the summer I would like to make this trip at night but not sure if any motel will let me check in in the early morning and check out at night so I could do a return trip at night.

I plan on making a trip from Dayton to Columbus riding this trail. Will I run into packed gravel along the way?I'm riding a road bike 700x23 with road tires?
@OhiotoErieTrail
@OhiotoErieTrail 5 лет назад
There is about 1/4 mile of gravel in the Battelle Darby Creek area that is easily avoidable by riding on Alkire Rd to Darby Creek Dr. This section will be replaced with a paved trail in a few months.
@OhiotoErieTrail
@OhiotoErieTrail 5 лет назад
Should add that it’s less gravel and more packed dirt and some gravel. It’s more of a hiking trail. I know some cyclists just walk their bike through this section.

I'm looking to do this trail with a friend. Having already done it, do you think there's much difference in difficulty going from Columbus -> Cinci or Cinci -> Columbus?
@OhiotoErieTrail

The roller hills in Holmes County are up and down so you'll hit them no matter which direction you are riding. Prevailing winds in Ohio are from the South, but there are always exceptions to this. The views as you enter Cleveland and look down on the Cuyahoga River are not to be missed, so if you're heading south, be sure to turn around every once in awhile to take in the views of Cleveland. Hope this helps!

is the stretch through battelle darby creek paved?
@OhiotoErieTrail
@OhiotoErieTrail 5 лет назад
The part of the trail that is parallel to the Darby Creek is still packed crushed stone and it will stay that way for the foreseeable future. The connectors on the either end of that section are paved and a new paved trail through the woods is being built and should open in late 2019. It will replace the segment of the Ohio to Erie Trail that is on the park road currently.

Would Cincinnati to Columbus be a reasonable distance for 2 brothers (more fit than average) in their mid 20s with no bike experience?
@OhiotoErieTrail
@OhiotoErieTrail 4 года назад
Sorry, we did not respond to your query sooner. Our answer would depend on how many miles you wanted to do per day. Most people split this up and stay over in the Xenia area overnight. The mileage to Xenia is about 70 miles and without biking experience this is a lot. Not just in terms of fitness, but in soreness. If your bike is not fitted properly, you will be feeling it after 70 miles in one day.

The best trails in Ohio must be elsewhere. With the exception of the Emerald Necklace, NE Ohio pretty much sucks. The Towpath Trail from Zoar to Cleveland is not only mediocre and washed out gravel half the time, but it's very crowded because of the lack of good trails. I know there are plans to extend this to Cleveland "some day". With all these STUPID texting distracted drivers, or monster trucks who think because they are big, they own the road, I don't feel safe on the road, even with a bike lane. I've seen people use it as a passing lane!
@OhiotoErieTrail

The Ohio to Erie Trail already goes all the way to Cleveland. I'm sorry you found the towpath section too soggy at the time. Weather can impact the trails in Ohio and other places too.

I'm old and don't want to ride a hundred miles. I am more like a 20 mile rider. Cam anyone recommend some good sections that are paved, not on the main roads, and in nature or otherwise scenic? I don't care where it might be in Ohio. Thanks!

I recommend Wasson Way. It’s a very nice section of trail and goes to Ault park and connects with Murray trail along old red bank road and past a sort of not so great part of trail at a big road intersection.

This is because I happen to live nearby and live in Cincinnati but that’s just me. Loveland bike trail is really nice though too.

@@Longjohnsilver58 No problem 👍 There also is a few other options around Cincinnati such as the Ohio river trail and many decent parks throughout the entire region.
