I have a question, lower guage wire (thick wire) electricity travels faster right? So it will get hotter fast, but why do you need to put your wattage up? If its getting hotter fast? Example guage and ohms: 24g kanthal (0.3 ohm) vs 28g kanthal (1.0 ohm) Which will get hotter first with 12watts of power? If the answer is 24g beacuse its thicker then why would I put the wattage up like 30watts if its already hot?
To hit the same wattage on both coils, You'll need to apply a different voltage proportional to the coil's resistance, resulting in a current that's inversely proportional to both. e.g. 24g/0.3Ω: 1.9v / 0.3Ω = ~6.3A (first triangle) 1.9v * 6.3A = 12w (second triangle) 28g/1.0Ω: 3.46v / 1.0Ω = 3.46A 3.46v * 3.46A = 12w The thicker coil will actually ramp considerably slower, as we use the same power to heat a bigger mass of metal.
