Wow a surgery without cutting. This is the next level of innovation and revolution. Congrats to the team that put this together. You are saving many many lives.
It's far from the only surgery without major incisions but yeah this is an amazing turn for medicine, there is actually a new (ish) method for treating liver cancer that involves just a specialized needle, a ultrasound/CT, and a really powerful microwave that's also super astounding
What's more, the ancient Egyptians write about this multiple millenia ago. An ancient Indian sage recorded his travels to ancient Egypt. He recorded accounts of his they made 100 + cell batteries, had lighter than air flight using animal intestines as balloons, divided water into gasses, how they built the pyramids by turning stone into powder, adding shells, grit and water and pouring each stone into place which only got more and more hard over time. How the pyramids were used to fertilize fields, and yet, no one pays attention. Because we believe ourselves more intelligent. Yet we can't even count back change. Most people don't even know how many states exist within the USA without looking it up. There are ancient accounts of 5 men building a monolithic structure using sound to hover and direct stones. 3 men to create the sound, 2 men to direct it. There are ancient Chinese accounts of preforming lung surgery. Where they would remove the lungs from people whom crossed the steppe and desert, wash out all the sand and debri which made breathing difficult, replace the lungs and people went on to live a good long life. We didn't believe it until mummies were found with healed scars. We ignore ancient literature at our own peril; for they didn't have all the distractions we do today. They had all the time in the world to do nothing but think.
What's also really cool is using bubbles and magnets to direct cancer medicine directly to specific cancer cells without needing to disperse medication to all living cells. The medication is attached to the inside of an air bubble. The medication is also magnetized. When the micro air bubble reaches the cancel cell it attaches, ruptures and treats that cell specifically. Pretty amazing stuff
*FABULOUS! As a retired (and disabled) Registered Nurse, seeing this video filled me with nothing by ABSOLUTE JOY. I hope the rest of your wonderful life gives you happiness without bounds!* 👍🖖🤗
To all of the doctors, nurses and other medical professionals, thank you for helping Carolyn in such a revolutionary new way. To Carolyn, I hope you able to share your experience with others, possibly starting a RU-vid channel. I’d also like to see your artwork and even teach others in your talent. Have a great day!
I have progressing essential tremors. It interferes with every part of my day. This would be life changing for me. Thank you. I have a lifelong friend who's waiting to hear if they're eligible for focused ultrasound in Philadelphia for Parkinson's. She needs her life back.
This made me cry. I have a slight tremor in my hands that affects my handwriting. It's kind of embarrassing but my doctor tells me this is a side effect of other medication I'm taking. Still, I know a bit about what Carolyn was going through ... especially since I'm also an artist. The tears are of joy in seeing her recovery.
I’m so glad I came across this on my computer! The surgery is amazing! The potential to help people with so many difficulties like this… Has it ever been used on anyone with Parkinson’s disease or epilepsy? Thank you for sharing this!
Dr. Raslan is amazing and great bedside manner. He was my last surgeon and also did my EEG with electrodes I think they were called. All around amazing surgeon and does ground breaking research studies! Amazing to talk with him about his research.
@@kaypee4704 And that’s not what she said, either. Thus the word “also”. _”He was my last surgeon _*_AND ALSO_*_ did my EEG with electrodes I think they were called.”_
Kaypee, Dawn doesn’t mention monitoring so perhaps what she is referring to is an EEG done in the OR with the Neurosurgeon placing the electrodes (used to be wicks soaked in saline) directly on the surface of the brain.
wow, another "medical breakthrough" i'll be deinied. i'm denied treatment for the medical problems i have now although i'm on FULL medicare. the profiteering medical industry KILLS MILLIONS every year, through malpractice and deniel of care, and allows others to suffer. I'M VERY SICK! I NEED MEDICAL ATTENTION NOW! i've notified medicare, politicians, cops, lawyers and the news media FOR YEARS! none of them give a shit
Amazing. I worked with an elderly lady for a time with tremors like this. It was difficult. Wonderful to see there is relief for people. Thank you for sharing. Good luck to all of them -
Will this help Parkinson's? Thank you Carolyn for donating all that beautiful hair to cancer patients. I donated mine back in 1996. I hope this non surgery will be available universally soon and, Carolyn, my hair grew back to its long length in 3 years.
No. Parkinson's is a totally different disease that affects neurotransmitter. . This is a mechanical fix (they destroy a tiny bit of the body) for a totally different disease.
As an artist, this broght a tear to my eye. I cannot imagine not being able to draw and paint due to my body failing in some way, I would be so devistated. But it looks like she's being made whole again and I'm so happy for her.
My mother had this "benign familial tremor". I and several sisters have it. One older sister had it so bad her entire body shook. She had to have a brain implant along with a control panel in her chest (done at OHSU) so the doctors could adjust it. This was only 10 years ago. It made her able to work again, but this would have been so much better! Mine is not quite as bad as this lady's was, but it's getting there. You should see me try to flip an egg or a pancake. And the more you try to control it the worse it becomes.
This is impressive. That haircutting is a toughie but at least temporarily it is part of the new you (who looked great with short hair too by the way)❤
So happy a safe simple “surgery” has had such a tremendous impact on patients’ quality of life. I pray this is only the beginning and people with epilepsy and other brain disorders can be similarly helped.
OMG this is great news, I am controlled by meds at the moment but there will come a time when they will stop working, I never wanted surgery because it was so invasive but now when the time comes I hope they will have it here in Australia by then.
Congrats to Carolyn, Dr. Raslin as well as Dr. Cleary for the success. Give these doctors Nobel Prizes please. Seems like this dream of healing can only happen in the US.
I have often ponderd utilizing converging sonic waves for deep oblation in Tumors. I never considered utilizing it in the Brain. I Theory, this technique should be very effective at Coronary Oblative procedure as well.
This is amazing! I do understand that cutting very long hair is hard to cut off. It takes so much work to get it that long. Mine is that long too. But I have to say that it would absolutely be worth it for this amazing recovery. 😊
This is quite similar to HistoSonics that use in liver cancer patient. HistoSonics use the high intensity ultrasound ( that we use in normal scanning body but much much higher in intensity directing to only 1 tiny focus point ).
This.... this is actually incredible. So, my understanding of this, is it's using VERY high accuracy beamforming of ultrasonic waves to create a focal point that destroys everything it touches. Naturally, the energy density is low enough outside of the crossing point nothing happens to the other surrounding tissue. So, burn and cut the short out of the circuit, and call it a day. Yeah, that's definitely something I'v never heard of being done, or even researched before at this point. I didn't even know the exact cause of essential tremor was mapped out already.
A no cut cure! This could have saved Terry from such a debilitating last few years. And that would have taken the pressure off of my mom too. Such is life. I’m glad it will benefit so many others.
