Why is the teaching of the artist excellent? I'll tell you. He's an adult, he doesn't need nerve-racking music in the background. He reduces what he wants to say. His English is clear. And he clearly has an understanding of what art and painting are. - Thank you! Greetings from Finland, Europe.
Thank you for generously sharing your knowledge with everyone. You are a natural-born teacher! We really appreciate your excellent lectures and demonstrations.
over the years I keep coming back to this old hobbie of painting, I have managed to become fairly skilled and pull my own family portraits, and I can tell, I have been in every video on youtube, and the amount of value you will get with Ben Lustenhouwer is ridiculous, for starters I use his skin colors, you will get experience knowledge like with any other, his maestry is insane I love seeing your videos Ben, thank you so much for all you do!
Brilliant, as a retired draughtsman I admire the grid work approach, In fact I lose proportion without them and the knitting needle idea is very helpful. Look forward to seeing how you handle a brush to achieve blocking in.
I too struggle with trying to minimize too much detailing. Realized that it doesn't make a portrait better so now i'm trying hard to loosen up my brush works. Thanks Ben! More power & good health to you. Keep safe & God bless.
Wow love your advice.. so true about not painting a portrait.. I always felt that when a painting look like a portrait it’s because less artistic and too realistic
Hi Ben, many thanks for sharing your genius technic, I really love your painting and start learn to paint, would you mind sharing little bit your tips, did you using fast drying oil or painting overwrite wet in wet or waiting for it drying then continue next layer ?
I'm unsure if you're in Spain or Portugal. But I wanted to know if I traveled to your location, could I purchase classes with you over a week or ten day period. Would appreciate knowing this possibility.
It's so good to see you again! I like your descriptions "keep it simple" and i love your humor between the lines "even i can make mistakes" thanks a lot for all Ben!
Love your longer more advanced painting videos. In particular the one explaining the colours in different parts if the face, there are so many basic instruction videos out there already. Would love some more advanced tips. Thank you Ben, I'm a big fan of your work!
Koszonom szepen! Thank you very much Maestro! Your recommendations and guidance helps us all to SEE and INTERPRET the world we live in. Even if I wouldn't be an aspiring amateur painter, even than, your recommendations would help me see the world around me much better and in more real way. Wish you great health and energy (that you have!) so you can keep us on the right track. And yes, sometimes to leave the painting and walk the dog! Blessings!
Thanks for choose Turkish language for subtitle. I like your videos. Its truly inspirational. Shows us how we can accomplish painting if we realy work hard for it.
I'm an italian (and not professional) artist, i'm trying to reproduce the oil effect with some of my paintings, but with digital softwares. This video is an absolute masterpiece for me, it's very helpful. It seems to me that you are a really genuine person, with the TRUE desire to help others. Thanks Ben, you really are a good man.
Ben I gave up on myself and my art when I finished college. I found myself so stressed I began to dread the one thing that ever gave me a sense of peace and purpose. Last night I was watching landscape artist of the year and next up you tube suggested your videos which I watched with delight. You have inspired me to try again. Your gentle encouragment and simplicity of instruction is invaluable Thank you.
So nice to hear Patricia. I want you to know that I also was very stressed in the beginning. What helped me a lot was allowing myself to fail. I tried to ruin a portrait and not aiming for the highest, only to find the fun of painting. Every artist must make at least a hundred bad paintings. And we all started as an amateur.
Love that I found you! As a self taught beginner, I appreciate the time you take to explain each step. May I ask what the tool is called to measure distance between nose and beard? I really need one! Thank you again. Warmest regards, Stacey
Hola, realmente me agrada mucho ver que usted da los mismos consejos que yo les doy a mis alumnos,y eso me hace sentir muy bien, pues lo admiro ,un abrazo grande desde Argentina ❤️🇦🇷
The value of these tips is actually some real wisdom. When you're a beginner it is so easy to get down on yourself and forget that painting is a constant push and pull, constant editing, being able to detect problems, which is a skill and it is not easy. I imagine I will spend the rest of my life refining those skills lol. "Every professional artist starts as an amateur" thank you Mr. Ben :)
