I love that bike man. I’ve got new Harleys but I would love to have a classic like that. You should be proud to own it. I’d still ride the wheels off of it. LOL
Thanks I've it a long time its my first motorcycle and plan on getting back in the saddle and riding all my Motorcycles again. They will be my son's one day.
Hello , beautiful sickle there . A master mechanic that built racing engines asked me what oil I ran in my Harley , this was back in 1984 and I told him Valvoline 60wt . racing oil . He said thats good oil ....if your racing . He said racing oil only has enough additive for 500 miles . In racing the oil is changed after every race so don't use it in your bike unless you change it every 500 miles not 5,000 miles . Made sense to me . I haven't used it since . If using racing oil works for you then do what makes you happy , Just an FYI . Thanks for showing us your bike .
Bad ass bike man. I hav an 04 road king with a 95" twin cam. It runs strong for what it is and definitely is all i need. I had a hot rod 103 and had more close calls with that thing to last me a long fucking time.
Thanks bud that's one of 4 of mine. I've been a firefighter for 15 years and when my son was born I worked two back to back fatalities that where the worse one I've worked and made me stop riding because I was thinking about him. But now I've gotten over that started back riding. In the shop and in the wind is my two favorite places in the world and he is starting to be the same way.
@harleycooper8701 thanks for replying back to me and definitely thank you for your service man, 1000%. You are a hero in my book. I have an 11 year old daughter and was nervous to ride when she was born, but I been on 2 wheels and a motor since I was 8. You regain confidence again.
My name is Ricardo, Sorry it took me a while. I just got settled after a 2 day return flight back to the U.S. I fully agree with your procedure. Now I want to know are you running the stock oiler for the primary chain? It circulates all that chain and clutch plate oil through the primary then returns it to the tank. You will see the fibers in the bottom of your oil pan after you drain it. That tank filter doesn't catch it.
@@ricardobooker1704 hope everything went well and you need to some rest dude. Lol. no I'm not running the stock oiler I'm running a S&S and yes all my oil goes back through the oil filter back into the oil tank. And the chain oiler just drips on the chain. And yes I have add oil every so often. But that's the price you pay to ride these old bikes.
So yea you do get splashed in the face but keep a bandana in my pocket to tie between the forks so help with that. But hey you can't be cool and comfortable lol. 😌
The primary and drive chain get oiled by drip oilers from the engine oil. You can Google 1968 Harley Davidson shovelhead oil system and it will show you how the lines are routed and how it works.
As long as the primary and chain have their original oilers then no you dont have to drain the primary. In the transmission I use Bellray gear saver. And I run rev tech high performance 20w50 oil. If the primary has the oilers blocked off then you run a primary lube.
