Been studying art for a while now, and this is one of the most impressive in depth tutorial art sites. If I can make a request...please use a bigger canvas or use an HD camera and upload at least 720p. Right now you are at 480p and its a bit difficult to see detail and color. Everything is HD these days. Also, most people don't use a desk computer anymore and are reliant on Ipads or big smart phones. So, its essential to get at least HD for those viewers. I'm on a desktop and I know the quality can be better.
I just came upon your site, and have to say, your very educational, and a joy to watch. I like how the concept of "abstract" comes into play. Never would have thought of that. Having that in mind is a great way to.improve on painting trees, etc. Watching you paint is having the insight of how you the artist thinks and develops a composition, and learning a new approach. Thanks for these vids, a joy, and great learning experience as well.
These types of painting were achieved by the "staining method". Old masters used a rag to add or remove paint, and thereby the composition starts to suggest itself, with a chiaroscuro effect to boot. Chiaroscuro means the interplay between light, and shadows.Rembrandt was a good exponent of that before electricity, when candles, and oil lamps were commonly used in those days at night time.
