Very interesting, I never knew how oils were applied. I want to try one day, but since I'm focusing on digital, it'll have to stay on the backburner for the time being. Meanwhile, Bobby, I hope you can add speed setting for the videos when you update Schoolism. I just started my subscription, but I think it would be beneficial if people could speed up or down the video they’re watching, like on RU-vid. I know for sure it would save some time for more art here and there!

.. Bob, what gessoed surface are you painting on? .. Is it a Belgian Linen ... I like how finely-toothed it is .... Perfect for oil painting.

Do any of the Schoolism classes explain how to go about painting something like this using oils? Most of the realistic techniques I see rely on wet on wet which would require me to work much faster than I'm able to

hmmm I never thought that you should hold the brush so far away from the actual painting end...I would guess that you'd have more control by holding it closer to the painting end..?

I just started oil paint. i don't even know how to make color., if you use white, it is usually opaque and take so long time to dry... see.. i can draw this much using few colors... then I end up mass up... after this stage... my problem is using opaque color...shadow color is tricky... if you can use white and black but now I understand why many avoid using those colors... Wet to wet.. opaque colors make muddy, unclear color... How many times do you have to do layers.. paint look so thin.. even i paint over 3 or 4 times over it. Ah... Artistic talent alone can't do oil painting...

Is the 'Essentials of Realism' a digital medium class or an actual oil painting / traditional class?

Hi, I recently took that class, it's not based on any medium. He uses mostly digital medium ala photoshop to demonstrate, it covers the fundamentals so it applies to most mediums in general.
