32 songs in one show. The same quality and energy from the beginning to the very end. No vocal fatigue, everyone on tune, playing it wonderfully. They knew how to give their audience a real memorable show. They were MONSTERS.
A shame I wasn't even alive until after Oingo Boingo disbanded, I recently discovered their music and I'm absolutely hooked. Would have loved to see them play someday!
They couldn’t have picked a better song to close the farewell show. I mean seriously, that was THE song to end it with. None of their other songs would have had the emotional impact this one did as a goodbye song. Perfect. I wish I could have seen them live
"He waited 17 yrs for me to open that door..." DAMN I wish I could've seen this in person...What a range of emotions that must've been for those guys...
This is how you call it quits. Honestly, watching this makes me not really want a reunion. If I was in a band that had the legacy of Oingo Boingo and /this/ was my farewell concert, I would consider it executed perfectly. I don't know how you top this. That being said, I'd like to see a reissue of their catalog. Not so much a remaster since Danny doesn't really like listening to old stuff, but some of these records are going out of print, and this DVD's been out of print for a while. But I think a reissue would be great for younger people like myself who want to have their records but just weren't around for their original release and don't want to get gouged.
Be you nomater what dont hide behind a soc vsuse guess by You may be judging what You got but dont fully know what you really do have b be and allow everyone to just be. Dont be afr. Hey I if your not happy with whT you got t tree ll it outloud.
Totally agree. I think people asking for a reunion or wanting to be nostalgic about Boingo are missing the point, even though it would be absolutely fantastic to see the band in the same room together and play a bit again. But not a reunion. They played for a loooong time and never got lazy. Also they really need to release the incredible collection of unreleased songs, that would be phenomenal
Can you imagine being on stage with the rest of that powerhouse? What a rush, and what a high. All for music, love, and bringing people together in one big party.
So much moshing going on in the crowd...not just with this song, but all throughout the show. Watch the other vids from this concert, especially during "Nothing To Fear" and "Just Another Day". The crowd just loses their shit and goes nuts over this music. I really can't blame them; this is some good music to be wrecking shit up with.
OMG did you hear that amazing harmony in Danny's voice towards the end of the song?, and that was live!, what incredible musicianship, Danny Elfman is such an awesome musician, singer/songwriter and composer!!
I'm slightly too young to have known Oingo Boingo right from the start, but as a kid in the late 80's was more into Metallica and Iron Maiden than "Weird Science", but over time I appreciated this band's music more and more, particularly the album this song is from. I watch this and I'm disappointed I passed on the opportunity to enjoy at the time they were going. I will add though that I have always liked Danny's film music; I absolutely loved the music to Beetlejuice and Batman as a kid.
I loved it all. My father taught me to like what i feel whenmit comes to music. My metal and punk friends knew this but i nd claimed to be strictly punkmor metal. Just that's my main likes. I tend to go for them or 60s and 70s rock music.
I am old enough to say I saw them at least 20 times going all the way back to when they played at Magic Mountain and I WAS AT THIS CONCERT RIGHT IN THE PIT.
Damn! Only saw them live once, but I've been a fan since.... Well, I still have their original E.P. on vinyl, that I bought when it was new. Even at 51 years old I proudly sport a "Smokin' Elvis" logo on right hand side of my beloved '89 Corolla Wagon's liftgate. On the left, a "Farewell" bumper sticker from the legendary KROQ, even though I left So-Cal in 1984. (Thanks E-bay).
Dave Howland Man I miss those 80's days in So. Cal, L.A. area. Lucky I was able to see Oingo Boingo Twice! Once in 85 at CAL-POLY POMONA, and in 88 at the Greek Theater!! I remember listening to 106.7 KROQ, with Richard Blade, and The Poorman, and when they guest DJ at numerous Southern Cal Clubs, you always see them. If you went down to San Diego, like on your way to TJ, you would then listen to 91X, on your way south of the border!!
Having been there that day, it brings a tear to my eyes recalling the beautiful THREE HOUR love fest that was the Oingo Boingo's farewell. Only a band that good can go out that strong and mean it! However I wouldn't hold it against them if they played......just one more show.......plllleeasssee...pretty please. Anywhere.....I have miles. : )
I saw them in Salt Lake City just before this final concert. Saw them many times here in SLC and once very early in their run in Southern Cal. I worked at Knotts Berry Farm for a summer in 82. Great music exploding right then. X, Boingo, GoGo's it was fun times. One of their concerts in small venue here in SLC still stands as the best concert I have ever seen.
Why hasn't this been released on Blu-Ray by Shout! Factory yet? This would be perfect for Shout! to put out. The DVD set sells for no less than 100 dollars.
"I love you Dannyyyyy!!!" I was here but backstage w Sum Crazy People waiting for Boingo to come back. Free Bar. My worst friend. Lol. Yeah it was an awesome night. No Thx Axl. I'm clean. Lol.
I was there - in the pit to watch it all end. My roommate at the time was with me and in the mosh pit and said oh I hurt my knee, I called him a puss. Took him to the doctor the next day and the hospital the week after for ACL surgery. Saw them 25+ times over the years - left the Greek Theatre and could not hear for hours after.
You should have been born sooner kid! They were the badist party band ever. Danny has sense written all the Batman themes, and other movie scores. If you check the hap's in LA around this Holloween season, they might be doing a bash. They were fam for there Holloween Party Blowout! They Jamed Kid, They Jamed. Ciao
I saw them at Privates in NYC. Danny was literally sweating bullets. He looked like a cool cartoon character from Heavy Metal magazine Good blow I guess. They opened for the GoGos.
Danny Elfman is such an awesome singer, songwriter, musician and composer it's a shame they don't play anymore, but then again Danny prefers composing music for t.v. shows and movies over playing live so what can we do? Just appreciate all the music he's composed. This song was so tight being played live! Did all of you listen to the incredible harmony in Danny's voice towards the end of the song? It's very obvious that he has studied alot of music theory and musicianship!!
Steve and Vatos looked so sad. Danny looked really happy. Quick story,I just went through a painful divorce and my ex-wife buys me two tickets to OBs Thursday night farewell show. She hated me,but in some way respected my love for Oingo Boingo.
they were so fucking good live and as good as a recording of this last concert was and its better then nothing it still cant hold a stick to actually being there when they played! fuck i miss boingo releasing new stuff. i love danny's soundtrack stuff but it will never be the same. heavy forlorn sigh.
fuck this song and the controller are like i sware the two most perfect songs ever made, i have listened to demos, live versions, exstended versions, every single version of these songs sounds amazing and perfect how?!
